The Health Evaluation and Analytics Lab (HEAL) at NYU Langone Medical Center is a collaborative initiative between the NYU Wagner School of Public Service and NYU Langone Medical Center. HEAL leverages New York Medicaid and other state administrative data to advance health and healthcare research. Our mission is to enhance the administration of the New York Medicaid program and contribute to national health and healthcare scholarship. Position Overview NYU Wagner currently has a full-time opportunity for a Junior Research Scientist to contribute to rigorous, policy-relevant research about the New York State health care system, social determinants of health, and Medicaid innovation. The Junior Research Scientist will work in close collaboration with faculty investigators to develop and implement analytic strategies, manage large administrative datasets, and generate insights that inform clinical practice and policy. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong analytical expertise and the ability to contribute to scholarly dissemination. Responsibilities include Provide general research support. Conduct systematic literature reviews. Develop and execute analytic plans for health services research projects, including defining study cohorts, constructing variables, and conducting statistical analyses. Manage, clean, and analyze large and complex administrative datasets (e.g., Medicaid claims) using SQL, R, Python, STATA and Excel. Integrate survey data and publicly available government data, as necessary. Perform comprehensive data quality assessments to identify anomalies, missing values, duplicates, and inconsistencies. Conduct analyses including regressions and supervised/unsupervised machine learning. Generate data visualizations and summarize project results in memos, written reports, and presentations. Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts, conference presentations, grant proposals, and technical reports. In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $62,400 - $70,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer. Required qualifications Bachelor’s degree in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, health economics, data science, or a related discipline (Master’s degree preferred). Demonstrated experience conducting quantitative research, including statistical analysis and data visualization; experience with large administrative health datasets (e.g., Medicaid, Medicare, EHRs) is a plus. Proficiency in R for data cleaning, transformation, statistical analysis, and visualization; proficiency in SAS, Stata or Python is a plus. Strong experience using SQL to extract and query data from large relational databases. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage competing priorities across multiple analytic workstreams. Experience contributing to peer-reviewed publications or technical reports. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex analytic concepts to non-technical collaborators. Please upload your resume and cover letter.
