Driver Supervisor

The Driver Supervisor provides hands-on leadership and day-to-day support for all courier and freight drivers. This position works with Drivers, Operations, Dispatch, Customer Support, Recruiting, Warehouse personnel, and Management to ensure drivers are trained, attendance and performance concerns are addressed, and route information remains accurate.

The Driver Supervisor maintains a visible presence in the operation and field, identifies concerns early, and follows issues through resolution. This position also serves as backup for the Warehouse Coordinator when needed.
Primary Responsibilities
Driver Leadership, Training & Accountability

• Supervise, coach, mentor, and support courier and freight drivers.
• Assist with onboarding, orientation, field training, and ongoing retraining.
• Reinforce expectations related to dependable attendance, professionalism, communication, customer service, safety, compliance, delivery procedures, freight handling, documentation, equipment, and vehicle care.
• Monitor driver performance and address concerns through coaching, retraining, documentation, and corrective action when necessary.
• Conduct ride-alongs, observations, audits, spot checks, and performance evaluations.
• Reinforce federal DOT Hours of Service requirements and address potential compliance concerns with drivers.
• Maintain driver scorecards and track attendance, reliability, communication, safety, service, and overall performance.
• Recognize strong performance while maintaining clear and consistent accountability.

Operational Support & Communication

• Serve as a liaison between Drivers and Operations and support real-time problem-solving.
• Maintain a visible presence in the field, warehouse, at customer locations, and in the office.
• Identify and respond to driver, staffing, route, safety, customer, and operational concerns before they become larger problems.
• Maintain organized records of coaching, training, route coverage, audits, staffing needs, and required follow-up.
• Confirm assigned actions are completed and escalate concerns when additional support or authority is needed.
• Support special projects and other driver, warehouse, customer, or operational needs as they arise.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by Management.

Route Setup, Training & Coverage

• Visit new customer locations to gather the information drivers need to complete pickups and deliveries successfully.
• Document access requirements, loading areas, contacts, paperwork, equipment needs, timing, security procedures, and other route details.
• Set up new routes, routinely audit existing routes, and keep schedules, instructions, contacts, and driver expectations current.
• Coordinate route training and ride-alongs for assigned and backup drivers.
• Confirm drivers have the information, training, and equipment needed before beginning route work.
• Review route performance after launch and update instructions or training as needed.
• Work with Operations and Dispatch to maintain reliable route and shift coverage.
• Communicate route and coverage changes promptly.

Warehouse Backup

The Driver Supervisor serves as backup when the Warehouse Coordinator is unavailable or needs additional support. Day-to-day ownership of the warehouse remains with the Warehouse Coordinator.

• Receive and inspect inbound shipments and report shortages, damage, or discrepancies.
• Load and unload freight safely.
• Assist with inventory accuracy and cycle counts.
• Complete order entry, order processing, shipping documentation, and related paperwork.
• Pick and pack orders and complete pallet breakdowns and rebuilds.
• Maintain warehouse organization, cleanliness, security, and safe work areas.
• Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other equipment after completing required training and authorization.
• Report inventory, equipment, facility, and operational concerns to Management.

Qualifications

• Previous experience supervising, coaching, or training employees in transportation, delivery, logistics, dispatch, warehousing, or another fast-paced operation is required.
• Strong communication, organization, judgment, problem-solving, and follow-through.
• Ability to build productive working relationships while addressing performance concerns directly.
• Experience coordinating schedules, attendance, staffing, routes, or operational coverage.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond to changing operational needs.
• Warehouse, inventory, loading, forklift, pallet jack, or freight-handling experience is preferred.
• Working knowledge of federal DOT Hours of Service regulations and the ability to identify and address potential compliance concerns.
• Comfortable working in office, warehouse, customer, and field settings.
• Comfortable learning Company systems used for dispatch, communication, documentation, and performance tracking.
• Valid driver's license and ability to meet Company driving requirements.
• Ability to pass required background and drug screening.

Key Measures of Success

• Drivers receive consistent training, coaching, communication, recognition, and follow-up.
• Routes contain complete and accurate information, and assigned and backup drivers are properly trained.
• Routes and shifts have reliable coverage.
• Attendance and performance concerns are identified and addressed consistently.
• Staffing needs are communicated early enough for Operations and Recruiting to respond.
• Driver and operational concerns are identified early and followed through to resolution.
• Warehouse operations remain supported when backup coverage is needed.
