Driver Position

The Driver is responsible for safely transporting exterior building products to various customer jobsites. This role requires excellent driving skills, adherence to traffic laws, excellent communication, and a commitment to providing outstanding customer service.

The Driver should be hardworking, team-oriented, and take initiative. They should have great attitudes, high energy, and enjoy focusing on customers. Essential duties and responsibilities include safely operating company vehicles to transport and pick up building materials product at designated locations, adhering to all traffic laws, regulations, and company policies, conducting pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure safety, maintaining a clean and well-organized vehicle interior, using proof of delivery to take pictures of the job site prior to making a delivery, communicating and working effectively with customers, dispatchers, management, and other employees, generating advance communication in the form of a text or phone call from the driver to the customer regarding the product delivery, following delivery routes and schedules accurately and promptly, loading product onto the truck for the specific deliveries designated within a route, completing necessary paperwork and maintaining accurate trip records, responding to emergencies or unexpected situations calmly and efficiently, safely driving the delivery vehicle to the customer jobsite, unloading product at the jobsite, in most circumstances, unassisted, ensuring that the product is protected from any inclement weather, staying beyond their scheduled time to help pull orders for delivery for the following day if required, reading work orders/invoices to determine product needs for customer pick-up or delivery, frequently lifting and carrying building materials product by hand weighing up to 100 pounds, operating a forklift to load a customer's vehicle, load an Erie Materials delivery truck, unload a vendor truck, move product in stock, etc., safely operating company equipment to transport and pick up building materials product within designated warehouse locations, working in the warehouse to appropriately receive and check in product, put away returns, stock bays, and help walk-in customers by providing them with their recently purchased product, cleaning warehouse area(s) including organization of materials, sweeping warehouse floors and parking lot areas, emptying trash cans, etc., and performing additional responsibilities, as assigned.

Customer service and technology interaction includes providing personalized customer service through direct in-person conversations and phone conversations, use of mobile apps and other technology to communicate with dispatchers and customers, maintaining a professional and friendly demeanor in all interactions, both in-person and electronically through technology mediums, and handling customer feedback and complaints efficiently, ensuring customer satisfaction.

Qualifications include a valid New York State Commercial Class A driver license with a clean driving record, minimum of 1 year of professional driving experience is preferred, high school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience, knowledge of building materials product is preferred, forklift and/or Moffett experience are preferred, excellent knowledge of and adherence to traffic laws and road safety regulations, ability to interpret and operate GPS and other navigation tools, strong communication, interpersonal and customer service skills, ability to lift and carry building materials product by hand weighing up to 100 pounds, ability to pass a DOT physical and DOT drug screening, ability to meet FMCSA Vision requirements, ability to meet FMCSA Hearing requirements, ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos, strong basic math skills, having a Hazardous Materials (HazMat) endorsement or must obtain it within the first 3 months of employment if hired without it, and having an Air Brakes endorsement.
