Energy Control Systems Engineer I–IV

Support Mission-Critical Energy Management and Control Center Systems

Georgia System Operations Corporation (GSOC) is seeking an Engineer to support the Energy Control Systems (ECS) Department and the technology platforms that enable reliable real-time electric system operations.

This role combines application administration, system administration, database support, cybersecurity awareness, and operational technology expertise to maintain critical Energy Management System (EMS), SCADA, scheduling, forecasting, interchange, and dispatch applications. The ECS Engineer helps ensure the security, availability, performance, backup, recovery, and maintainability of systems supporting GSOC's System Control Center, Energy Control Center, and Operational Technology Control Center.

Candidates with deeper EMS, SCADA, operational technology, utility application, and system support experience may be considered for Senior ECS Engineer responsibilities.

This is an onsite position and it is not eligible for visa sponsorship

 

What You'll Do

• Support, administer, maintain, and secure critical EMS, SCADA, and operational technology applications.
• Monitor assigned systems and applications for performance, reliability, security events, and operational readiness.
• Install, test, coordinate, and support security patches, upgrades, fixes, and software releases.
• Provide application administration and support for scheduling, forecasting, interchange scheduling, generation dispatch, ICCP, AGC, historical archive, alarms and events, and related operational applications.
• Support system restoration, troubleshooting, backup, recovery, and incident resolution activities.
• Collaborate with Security Operations, vendors, developers, database administrators, and infrastructure teams.
• Develop and maintain documentation, procedures, specifications, and technical recommendations.
• Support application users, operators, and Family of Companies stakeholders through training and technical guidance.

 

What You Bring

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
• Experience supporting EMS, SCADA, operational technology systems, application administration, system administration, or utility technology environments.
• Knowledge of software development, application support, databases, cybersecurity, system administration, or enterprise applications.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, customer service, communication, and documentation skills.
• Ability to participate in an on-call support environment supporting mission-critical systems.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Energy Management & Operational Technology

• Experience with EMS, SCADA, utility operations applications, ICCP, AGC, dispatch, forecasting, interchange scheduling, or historical archive systems.
• Experience supporting control center, operational technology, or utility environments.

Systems, Development & Administration

• Experience with Linux, UNIX, Windows Server, databases, networking, application development, and enterprise systems support.
• Experience with C, C++, Java, SQL, shell scripting, Oracle, XML, or related technologies.

Security & Compliance

• Knowledge of NERC CIP requirements, cybersecurity practices, system hardening, backup, recovery, and operational resiliency.

Leveling Overview

• Engineer I – Entry-level engineer supporting application administration, EMS/SCADA operations, system support, and troubleshooting activities.
• Engineer II – Experienced engineer supporting EMS application administration, upgrades, troubleshooting, system recovery, and operational support.
• Senior Engineer – Advanced engineer responsible for complex restoration efforts, application security, technical leadership, mentoring, vendor coordination, and critical operational technology platforms.
