Overview The University of Iowa Community Clinics is seeking a patient-centered 100% (40 hours per week) Sonographer to perform a variety of ultrasound procedures/non-invasive procedures in our Urbandale Clinic. This position will perform complex ultrasound procedures at an advanced level requiring independent judgment and initiative to obtain information for physicians in diagnosing and treating patient illness. The role may involve pediatric and some adult echocardiography and may float to other clinics including Pediatrics and/or Specialty/Outreach Clinics. Responsibilities Perform complex diagnostic ultrasonography procedures including imaging and Doppler. Consult with the interpreting physician regarding ultrasound exam findings. Document exam information as required by departmental standards. Evaluate ultrasound exam images to determine diagnostic quality. Assist with and provide ultrasound guidance for intraoperative and invasive procedures. Provide information and instructions to patients and families regarding diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures. Perform patient care techniques including skin preparation, IV placement, vital signs monitoring and recording, and basic life support; prepare and administer contrast material to patients. Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the public. Instruct and evaluate sonography students and medical residents on the operation of diagnostic equipment. Maintain quality control within the ultrasound section according to departmental standards. Determine equipment malfunctions and contact repair service; perform equipment calibration and sterilization as prescribed. Maintain certification as specified by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers. Qualifications Education Required Requires completion of one of the following pathways: CAAHEP-accredited or equivalent program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography or Vascular Technology; or Completion of a two-year (or more) accredited health science program (e.g., Radiologic Technology, Medical Technology, Nursing) plus a twelve-month formal education program in Sonography; or Completion of a bachelor’s degree plus a twelve-month formal education program in Sonography. Experience Required Requires registration by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers in at least one specialty area (e.g., Pediatric Echocardiography). Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. Driver's License and ability to meet University of Iowa Feet Safety Standards are required. Highly Desired Qualifications Certification/membership in an appropriate professional specialty; experience in pediatric echocardiograms and fetal echocardiograms. Desired Qualifications Previous experience in Echo; experience with EPIC; pediatric experience.
