The principal duty of all employees is to assist in the mission of the Church in the Diocese of Fort Worth. General Position Summary:

Responsible for the maintenance, cleanliness, set up, and repair of parish facilities and grounds. Performs a variety of facility and equipment maintenance duties. May perform various routine maintenance and repairs including routine carpentry, plumbing, and electrical duties based on skill level and experience.

Part time, flexible shifts may include weekend work, typically 20 - 24 hours weekly: ideal for retirees or individuals looking for additional income.

Principal Accountabilities:

• Help with a variety of installations, repair and renovation to buildings including but not limited to electrical fixtures and switches, and semi-skilled tasks in construction, repair and maintenance of wooden structures and articles, painting.
• Installation, repair, and renovation of some equipment including metal and wood equipment, electrical appliances, valves, gas stoves, hot water heaters, sinks, commodes, hand basins, kitchen appliances, heating and cooling systems, sewer lines, irrigation sprinklers.
• Assist with coordination of volunteer groundskeeping resources for cutting and planting of lawns, trees, and shrubs, and watering and fertilizing of the same.
• Moving and transporting furniture, books, and miscellaneous items within building and outer storage units. Set up/break down of tables/chairs as needed for classes, meetings, and overflow Mass.
• Maintains daily work order maintenance logs and works reports which document the time and materials used to complete the project(s), preferably with computer software.
• Assist with documentation of standard practices associated with key components of new facility (e.g., Electrical, Security, Septic, Lighting, HVAC Systems).
• Removal of snow and ice from campus roadways, parking lots, ramps, and walkways.
• Assist other areas related to overall maintenance of the campus and rectory.
• The above does not exhaust duties. Other duties may be requested from time to time through the Business Manager and Facilities Manager.

Record Retention Responsibilities:

• Securely maintains a current work process binder for each major area of responsibility.
• Secure and orderly storage of vendor, contractor, and contract records.

• Received: Supervision given to this position from Security & Facility Manager, Business Manager and/or Parish Pastor.
• Given: may supervise numerous volunteers & volunteer activity associated with groundskeeping activity or special projects.

• Pastor, Priests, and employees.

External Contacts:

• Parishioners, diocese vendors, local, state, and federal agency representatives, and auditors.

Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:

• This position is in an office and maintenance shop environment and works projects outside on the parish grounds under various weather conditions.
• This position requires on call availability outside of normal business hours, if needed. Required to work some nights and weekends depending upon parish needs.
• Lifting: Safely lifting 35 lbs. on a regular basis, 50 lbs. on an occasional basis.
• Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces.
• Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.
• Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
• Use of Fingers: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling.
• Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm and being able to turn a key and doorknob and operate work tools.
• Communicating: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Conveying detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, clearly, and quickly.
• Repetitive Motions: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
• Visual Acuity: Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a security alarm or computer monitor; expansive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts and/or operation of machines; using measurement devices; and/or assembly of fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes. Visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned (i.e., custodial, general labor, etc.). or to make general observations of facilities or structures (i.e., inspection, etc.)
• Climbing: Ability to ascend and descend ladders (including 6', 8', 12', 25' and roof hatch ladders), stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.
• Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
• Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
• Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
• Crawling: Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.
• Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
• Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force to thrust forward, downward or outward.
• Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
• Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching skin, particularly that of fingertips.
• Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels or with correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and make fine discriminations in sound.
• Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance and up to 60 pounds with assistance.
• The physical requirements that can occur frequently are as follows: sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, squatting, shoveling, pushing, pulling, talking standing, walking, climbing stairs and ladders.

Travel Requirements:

Some travel required, up to 5%. Travel is necessary when needing supplies, equipment, or when needing to provide maintenance at our Rectory.

Education and Experience Preferred:

• Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D.
• Must have a valid State driver’s license. Must maintain a valid Driver’s License and auto insurance meeting diocesan minimum requirements.
• Experience with building, ground, and/or industrial maintenance.

Knowledge and Skills Preferred:

• Active member of a Roman Catholic parish
• Working knowledge of key building systems. (Electrical, Security, Septic, Lighting, HVAC, etc.)
• Ability to diagnose and perform minor mechanical repairs
• Good mechanical aptitude and familiar with construction
• Ability to work from ladders, adjust to height and close quarters.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), building energy management systems and event scheduling systems, office practices, record keeping techniques, file practices
• Knowledge of cleaning/janitorial equipment and supplies and their safe use and storage
• Excellent communication skills and ability to clearly express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word. Must be personable and able to converse intelligently and work effectively with contractors, parishioners, and staff.
• Ability to effectively lead and coordinate the activities of staff, contractors, and volunteers
• Ability to complete minor repairs and be part of developing plans for major repairs.
• Work with parish staff to identify ongoing maintenance concerns and any necessary preventative maintenance projects.
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to organize, prioritize, and utilize effective time management techniques.
