Heart of Harlem Veterinary Clinic is seeking a reliable, hardworking, and detail-oriented Cleaner / Janitor / Kennel Assistant to join our team full-time.

This role is essential to keeping our hospital clean, safe, organized, and welcoming for our patients, clients, and staff. The ideal candidate takes pride in deep cleaning, understands how to properly use cleaning products, is comfortable around dogs and cats, and can work independently while supporting the veterinary team.

Job Summary

We are looking for someone who can help maintain the cleanliness and organization of our veterinary clinic at a high standard. Responsibilities include cleaning bathrooms, treatment rooms, exam rooms, kennel areas, kitchen areas, laundry, towels, staff clothing, outdoor areas, and general workspaces.

This position may also include assisting with basic animal care, such as cleaning cages, walking dogs, helping with feeding, and making sure pets are kept in a clean and comfortable environment.

We need someone who is dependable, fast-moving, detail-oriented, and committed to keeping everything clean and perfect.

Responsibilities

• Deep clean and sanitize exam rooms, treatment areas, kennels, bathrooms, kitchen, and common areas 
• Keep towels, blankets, bedding, and staff laundry clean, washed, dried, folded, and organized 
• Make sure clean towels and supplies are always available 
• Clean and disinfect cages, kennels, runs, floors, walls, counters, and equipment 
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and remove trash throughout the clinic 
• Clean the outside area of the clinic and help maintain curb appeal 
• Restock cleaning supplies, paper towels, soap, toilet paper, and other essentials 
• Follow proper cleaning and disinfecting procedures using appropriate products 
• Keep treatment rooms clean and ready for the medical team 
• Wash food bowls, litter boxes, toys, and animal care items 
• Assist with walking dogs, feeding animals, and basic kennel duties when needed 
• Report any safety issues, broken equipment, messes, or concerns to management 
• Maintain a clean, organized, professional, and safe environment at all times 

Qualifications

• Cleaning, janitorial, housekeeping, or animal care experience preferred 
• Must know how to properly use cleaning products and disinfectants 
• Comfortable working around dogs and cats 
• Strong attention to detail 
• Reliable, punctual, and hardworking 
• Able to work independently and as part of a team 
• Able to stand, bend, lift, mop, scrub, and move throughout the shift 
• Must take pride in cleanliness and organization 
• Veterinary clinic, kennel, grooming, or animal shelter experience is a plus

Schedule

Full-time position. Schedule may include weekdays and some weekends depending on clinic needs.

Pay

Starting at $17/hour , based on New York City minimum wage requirements and experience.
