Project Financial Lead (TRAVEL REQUIRED)

The role requires domestic travel. Position Description Manage financial execution of a large‑scale and/or complex construction project and perform day‑to‑day tactical project accounting, cash flow management, forecasting, cost analysis, compliance, and internal controls. Serve as the primary financial contact for the project team to confirm alignment between field operations, client, and financial procedures. Essential Duties & Key Responsibilities Provide project financial oversight and compliance from preconstruction through closeout for a large and/or complex construction project and give financial guidance and communication to project stakeholders. Manage and conduct billing, receivables, and collections for the project to achieve efficient financial operations and improve net working capital (NWC) while aligning with financial controls and company reporting standards. Confirm client contractual requirements and entitlements for billing, including reviewing owner contract analysis to determine billing deadlines, payment terms, billable and non‑reimbursable expenses, insurance and fee billing agreements, and approved billing rates for staff and trade labor. Collaborate in developing project budgets, forecasts, profit plans, and cash‐flow models, aligning with profit‑center goals and in conjunction with project leaders and relevant stakeholders. Review project budgets for accuracy and proper reflection of risks and impacts of potential enhancements, in line with owner contract and company policies and procedures. Lead implementation of owner audits, support Internal Review audits, and drive cost audit processes including Budget Analysis Reports (BARs), Cost‑Audited BARs (CABs), and special studies as required per risk indicators. Lead month‑end close for the project, including work‑in‑place (WIP) analysis, cost‑to‑complete, revenue and earnings recognition, and reporting accuracy. Assess and summarize project financial performance indicators (cost, revenue, margin, cash flow) and present findings to project leadership and relevant stakeholders. Identify and communicate financial risks that impact project performance and earnings; align with the project team on mitigation strategies and hold the team accountable to action plans. Oversee and confirm compliance with GAAP, company policies, and contract‑specific financial requirements. Contribute financial information, issues, and recommendations in Operational Review Meetings (ORMs), Profitability Improvement Meetings (PIMs), and other financial health checks. Review project financial processes, cost coding, and forecasting practices for continuous improvement and recommend enhancements to tools, templates, and workflows that improve project financial visibility and accuracy. Contribute to the project forecasting process with operations, including Project WIP, General Conditions vs. General Requirements (GC/GR), and other project‑related forecasts. May supervise other Financial team members, participate in hiring, onboard new members, deliver timely performance feedback for direct reports, contribute to performance appraisals during the annual performance cycle, utilize talent management systems, and identify appropriate training to aid development needs. Facilitate project‑specific training on financial systems, processes, and compliance standards to relevant project team and stakeholders. Perform other activities, duties, and responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Engineering, or a related field with a minimum of 8 years of related experience in project or construction finance supporting field operations, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. In‑depth knowledge of project accounting, billing, receivables, collections, financial cost control, cash‑flow management, forecasting, budget audits, and reporting procedures. Ability to read, understand, and interpret contract language. Thorough knowledge and application of GAAP and company policies. Knowledge of audit procedures, including planning, techniques, testing, and sampling methods. Able to make independent judgment in determining relevance and importance of project risks. Advanced analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to analyze and summarize issues, recommend corrective actions, and influence decision‑making. High degree of organization and attention to detail. Strong dedication to integrity with the ability to maintain discretion of confidential and sensitive information. Professional written and verbal communication skills, able to clearly convey complex information to non‑financial audiences and deliver difficult messages. Self‑motivated with the ability to prioritize multiple complex and demanding tasks and priorities. Demonstrated emotional self‑awareness and ability to respond to influence outcomes and manage relationships.
