About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Medical-Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2-3 years in specialty License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS preferred Must-Have: Must have tele experience. Pediatric experience preferred. Nurses must know how to titrate heparin. Description: This is a fast-paced medical-surgical unit with a total of 45 beds. The unit cares for adult and pediatric medical-surgical telemetry patients. Common patient diagnoses include COPD, post-operative care, GI bleeds, Client surgeries, orthopedic procedures, sepsis, altered mental status, chest pain, stroke, cellulitis, and alcohol withdrawal. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1 to 5. Staff includes nurse aides who work 8 or 10-hour shifts. From 1 AM to 7 AM, there is no aide present on the unit. The unit utilizes CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen equipment. Nurses do not need to read and interpret telemetry strips. Charge nurses take a patient assignment as team leaders. Self-scheduling is allowed to some degree, with schedules made 30-45 days in advance. Weekend shifts are required every other week or four weekends in a four-week schedule. Holiday work is included in the permanent staff rotation. There is a call or standby requirement. Floating to other areas, such as telemetry or obstetrics, is optional for those with experience. The unit orientation lasts for 2-3 days, with one day allocated for a scavenger hunt. Clientists are available on-site, although not 24/7. Patients move in and out of the unit quickly, with an average length of stay being 3 days. Protonix or heparin drips may be used in patient care. Candidates must possess 2-3 years of experience in their specialty to be considered.
