Description Experienced Nurses: Join Our New Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) Team! We are excited to launch our new 13-bed Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) within our Level1 Pediatric Trauma Center. This specialized unit provides advanced, life‑saving care to critically ill infants, children, and adolescents with complex congenital and acquired heart conditions. You will work within a highly skilled and dedicated team in a supportive, interdisciplinary environment focused on delivering exceptional and compassionate care to the most fragile patients. As a PCICU nurse, you will: Provide specialized care for critically ill pediatric cardiac patients and families Receive cross‑training to manage a broad range of pediatric medical and surgical cases Expand your clinical skills in a dynamic, high‑acuity setting Receive paid didactic educational time enhancing Pediatric Cardiac knowledge Schedule: 3 × 12‑hour shifts per week (36 hours), rotating between night and day shifts, with weekend requirements. Summary: Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting to and accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse coordinates and delivers patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting. Responsibilities Education: Participate in identifying and meeting learning needs; attend education programs; use patient education materials relevant to the patient population; assess readiness to learn of the patient/family/caregivers; assess developmental level and factors affecting ability to learn. Evaluation of Care: Identify expected patient outcomes; seek guidance as needed in revising plans of care; participate in interdisciplinary discussions; communicate relevant information to promote continuity of care. Implementation: Demonstrate competence in care of patients with complex problems, including physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects; perform bedside point‑of‑care testing; utilize organization and nursing standards, policies, and procedures; organize and prioritize care; consult resources timely regarding complex care issues. Leadership: Develop goals for professional growth; achieve goals within identified timelines or renegotiate; understand activities facilitating intra/interdepartmental collaboration; participate in unit goal setting and performance improvement; use communication systems effectively; promote cost‑effective care; provide feedback to colleagues; be aware of public policy and regulatory guidelines; promote a safe, clean, secure hospital environment. Patient Assessment: Recognize data from complex situations to determine priorities; address physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs; synthesize assessment data; anticipate discharge needs; build relationships with families to promote advocacy. Planning: Collaborate with patient/family for care plan; use multidisciplinary resources; employ a full range of communication; address cultural and ethnic issues; prioritize tasks for complex patients. Research: Read relevant journals; bring ideas and questions to staff for assessment of applicability. Qualifications Education: Graduation from a school of professional nursing. Licensure/Certification: Registered Nurse in North Carolina; Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification. Professional Experience: One (1) year of nursing experience. Schedule & Compensation Work type: Full Time. Standard hours per week: 36. Salary range: $34.22 - $48.38 per hour (based on experience and equity).
