Position Summary

Saint Joseph's Medical Center is seeking an experienced and visionary Vice President of Quality Management to provide executive leadership for the organization's quality, patient safety, risk management, regulatory compliance, and performance improvement initiatives.

The Vice President of Quality Management is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing a comprehensive quality management program that promotes exceptional patient care, ensures regulatory compliance, minimizes organizational risk, and supports a culture of continuous quality improvement throughout the Medical Center.

Serving as the organization's Patient Safety Officer , this executive partners closely with senior leadership, physicians, nursing leadership, and departmental managers to advance strategic initiatives that improve patient outcomes, enhance operational performance, and maintain compliance with all federal, state, and accreditation standards.

Salary: $230,000 - $250,000 per year

Essential Responsibilities

Executive Leadership

• Provide strategic leadership for all Quality Management, Patient Safety, Risk Management, and Performance Improvement initiatives.
• Serve as the organization's Patient Safety Officer.
• Develop long-term quality improvement strategies aligned with the Medical Center's mission and strategic goals.
• Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous quality improvement throughout the organization.
• Collaborate with executive leadership, medical staff, and department directors to establish organizational quality priorities.

Quality & Performance Improvement

• Develop, implement, and monitor organization-wide quality improvement programs.
• Establish measurable quality indicators and monitor performance metrics.
• Analyze quality data to identify trends, opportunities, and areas requiring corrective action.
• Lead multidisciplinary performance improvement initiatives.
• Ensure ongoing compliance with evidence-based clinical practice standards.
• Promote the use of data-driven decision-making throughout the organization.

Patient Safety

• Direct the organization's patient safety program.
• Develop initiatives that improve patient outcomes while reducing adverse events.
• Oversee investigation and analysis of patient safety events.
• Lead Root Cause Analyses (RCA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (FMEA).
• Implement strategies to reduce clinical risk and improve patient safety outcomes.

Risk Management

• Provide executive oversight for the Risk Management program.
• Develop strategies to minimize organizational liability and clinical risk.
• Oversee incident reporting, investigation, and follow-up activities.
• Coordinate claims management activities.
• Collaborate with legal counsel and insurance representatives regarding liability matters.
• Monitor organizational exposure and recommend risk mitigation strategies.

Corporate Compliance

• Provide leadership for the Corporate Compliance Program.
• Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
• Monitor organizational adherence to healthcare laws, regulations, and accreditation standards.
• Develop compliance education and training initiatives.
• Investigate compliance concerns and recommend corrective action when necessary.

Regulatory Readiness

• Serve as the primary organizational liaison during regulatory surveys and accreditation reviews.
• The Joint Commission (TJC)
• Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)
• New York State Department of Health (NYS DOH)
• Other regulatory agencies
• Ensure continuous survey readiness throughout the organization.
• Oversee implementation of corrective action plans resulting from survey findings.

Data Analysis & Reporting

• Monitor quality, safety, and performance metrics across all service lines.
• Present findings and recommendations to executive leadership, committees, and the Board of Directors.
• Develop dashboards and reports that support organizational decision-making.
• Ensure data integrity and meaningful performance analysis.

Leadership & Collaboration

• Provide leadership, mentoring, and professional development for Quality Management staff.
• Promote interdisciplinary collaboration among physicians, nursing, ancillary departments, and administration.
• Represent Saint Joseph's Medical Center at professional meetings and community organizations as appropriate.
• Participate in strategic planning initiatives and organizational leadership activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

• Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Nursing, Public Health, Business Administration, and/or a related healthcare field required.
• Doctoral degree preferred.
• NYS RN License required.

Experience

• Management, patient safety, performance improvement, or risk management.
• Executive leadership experience within an acute care hospital strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience leading organization-wide quality initiatives.
• Experience working with regulatory and accreditation agencies.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Comprehensive knowledge of healthcare quality improvement methodologies.
• Strong understanding of CMS, Joint Commission, and New York State Department of Health requirements.
• Expertise in patient safety, regulatory compliance, and accreditation standards.
• Strong analytical and data interpretation skills.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent organizational, leadership, and strategic planning abilities.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to influence organizational change through collaboration and leadership.
• Proficiency with quality reporting systems and Microsoft Office applications.
