Responsibilities

As a Groundsman, you'll play a key role supporting electrical and site development projects throughout the Elgin area. You'll work alongside experienced electricians and construction professionals on commercial and industrial projects.

• Assist with site preparation and general construction labor
• Dig trenches and prepare work areas for underground electrical infrastructure
• Support conduit installation and underground utility work
• Install and assist with exterior lighting systems, including parking lot lighting
• Transport materials, tools, and equipment throughout job sites
• Operate hand tools and power tools safely and effectively
• Support operation of heavy equipment, including backhoes, excavators, and bulldozers
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe job sites
• Follow company safety procedures and project specifications
• Work closely with electricians, equipment operators, and project leaders to complete projects on schedule

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous construction experience is a plus.
• Experience working outdoors on physically demanding jobs is beneficial.
• Ownership of personal hand and power tools is preferred.
• Any prior exposure to electrical work or assisting electricians is an advantage.
• Interest in attending trade school or participating in on-the-job training to become an electrician.

Work Environment
You work primarily outdoors in the elements, performing more physical tasks than a traditional electrician. The service area is focused within approximately 25 miles of Elgin. You collaborate with a small team of electricians, with leadership often present on job sites, creating a close-knit and hands-on work culture.
The work involves the use of general construction tools, hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment such as horizontal drilling rigs, backhoes, and bulldozers under supervision.
Projects vary in length from a few days to a couple of weeks, providing consistent employment with regularly changing tasks and sites
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Elgin, IL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
