Apprenticeship Program In Utilities And Facilities Construction & Management

Lee County is looking for motivated and dependable people to join our paid Apprenticeship Program in the Utilities and Facilities Construction & Management departments. This is a great chance to learn a skilled trade, earn a steady income, and start a long-term career, without college debt.

We are offering full-time Apprenticeship positions in Electrical and HVAC. These roles are perfect for people who enjoy hands-on work, want to learn valuable skills, and are ready to build their future with the third-largest employer in our area.

These positions are part of a state-certified, 4-year training program with paid on-the-job learning and evening classes. You will learn from experienced professionals while building a strong career path.

What We Offer

Program Details

• Duration: 4 years
• On-the-Job Training: 8,000 total hours
• Classroom Instruction: 576 hours (5–6 evenings per month, 6–9 p.m.)
• Training Location: Tri-County Apprenticeship Academy, 13830 Jetport Commerce Pkwy, Fort Myers
• Program Start: Employment begins in June; classes begin in August
• Certification: Earn a nationally recognized certificate

Important: If you are offered a position, you must attend an in-person registration appointment at the Tri-County Apprenticeship Academy by Thursday, June 18, 2026.

Electrical Apprentice – Utilities

Utilities Electricians work in the water and wastewater systems. You will learn:

• Names and uses of equipment used in the trade
• How to select residential and commercial wiring materials
• How to load and unload tools and equipment
• How to lay out outlets, switches, receptacles, and components using blueprints or supervisor direction
• How to pull wires, use fish tape, and prevent damage to conductors
• How to install service switches, load centers, and sub-feeders
• How to run raceways and pull in conductors with a qualified electrician or journeyman

Utilities electrical work often involves higher voltage than typical building work.

Lift stations use stronger electrical systems to power pumps, motors, and controls that move wastewater through the county system.

Electrical Apprentice – Facilities

Facilities Electricians work inside county buildings and facilities. You will learn:

• Names and uses of electrical tools and equipment
• How to read basic blueprints
• How to pull wires and install switches, outlets, and service panels
• How to install building electrical systems with guidance from a licensed electrician

Facilities work is mainly low to medium voltage, commonly used in building operations.

The largest equipment you'll see includes 15-ton chillers, lighting systems, and large backup generators that support county buildings.

HVAC Apprentice – Facilities

• Learn welding, soldering, and brazing
• Install and service compressors, thermostats, and pressure devices
• Work with piping systems and HVAC components
• Assist in troubleshooting heating and cooling systems

Education, Experience, Licensing

• High school diploma or GED (required by job offer date)
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
