Cable Technician I Position Summary The Cable Technician I is an entry-level position responsible for supporting the installation, routing, termination, and organization of low-voltage cabling systems in data center and commercial environments. Working under the direction of Lead Technicians and Project Supervisors, this role provides hands-on training and development opportunities for individuals seeking to build a career in telecommunications, structured cabling, and data center infrastructure.
The ideal candidate demonstrates a strong work ethic, mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to workplace safety.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist with the installation of CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6A, and fiber optic cabling in data center and commercial construction environments.
* Pull, route, and properly support low-voltage cabling using cable trays, J-hooks, ladder racks, strut systems, D-rings, and other support structures.
* Support cable installation from telecommunications rooms to server cabinets, workstations, and end-user devices.
* Dress, label, organize, and secure cabling according to company, customer, and industry standards.
* Assist with the installation of telecommunications racks, cabinets, patch panels, cable management systems, and network hardware.
* Learn and perform basic copper and fiber optic terminations under supervision.
* Assist with grounding, bonding, fire stopping, and penetration sealing activities as required.
* Follow cable routing plans, floor layouts, blueprints, and installation drawings under the guidance of higher level technicians.
* Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all times.
* Transport tools, equipment, and materials as needed to support project activities.
* Accurately complete daily timesheets and project documentation.
* Adhere to all company, customer, OSHA, and industry safety standards.
* Participate in safety meetings, training programs, and ongoing professional development.
* Support Lead Technicians, Project Supervisors, and Project Managers with additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required
* High school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
* 1 to 3 years of experience in telecommunications, low-voltage cabling, construction, or a related field.
* Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
* Strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to safety.
* Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn structured cabling installation techniques.
* Reliable transportation.
Preferred
* Basic construction experience or familiarity with construction job sites.
* OSHA 10 certification.
* Exposure to data center environments.
Physical Requirements
* Ability to work in active construction sites, commercial buildings, and data center environments.
* Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and climb for extended periods.
* Ability to work shifts of up to 10-12 hours based on project requirements.
* Ability to safely use ladders, scissor lifts, and fall protection equipment after receiving proper training.
* Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move materials weighing up to 75 pounds with assistance.
* Ability to identify cable color codes and read labels, drawings, and technical documentation.
* Ability to travel within the local market as required by project needs.

*Pay and Benefits*The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr.
