Job Summary

We are seeking a dependable and mechanically inclined Utility Maintenance Mechanic to support the installation, maintenance, rehabilitation, and repair of water and wastewater utility equipment.

This is a hands-on position involving pumps, valves, lift stations, piping systems, guide rails, motors, and related mechanical equipment. The ideal candidate will have experience in industrial maintenance, pump repair, underground utilities, wastewater systems, plumbing, millwright work, or a closely related mechanical trade.

Work will be performed in both shop and field environments. Candidates must be comfortable working outdoors, around water and wastewater systems, and in physically demanding conditions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair pumps, motors, valves, piping, and related utility equipment
• Assist with complete lift-station rehabilitation and repair projects
• Remove, install, and replace submersible pumps, valves, guide rails, piping, and mechanical components
• Perform preventive maintenance and monthly inspections on lift stations and utility equipment
• Diagnose mechanical problems and determine the appropriate repair
• Disassemble, clean, inspect, repair, and reassemble pumps and related equipment
• Assist with wet-well repairs, lining work, and equipment installation
• Perform basic plumbing, pipefitting, and mechanical assembly work
• Operate hand tools, power tools, pumps, hoists, and other job-related equipment
• Read work orders, equipment manuals, measurements, and basic mechanical drawings
• Document inspections, repairs, materials used, and completed work
• Maintain tools, equipment, vehicles, and work areas in a clean and organized condition
• Follow lockout/tagout, confined-space, fall-protection, and job-site safety procedures
• Travel to customer locations and utility sites throughout the service area
• Participate in overtime, emergency calls, or rotating on-call assignments when required
• Perform other related mechanical and utility-maintenance duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Previous experience in utility maintenance, industrial maintenance, pump repair, plumbing, pipefitting, millwright work, wastewater systems, or a related mechanical field
• Mechanical knowledge of pumps, motors, valves, bearings, seals, piping, and rotating equipment
• Ability to troubleshoot mechanical problems and complete repairs safely
• Experience working with lift stations or water/wastewater equipment is strongly preferred
• Welding, fabrication, electrical troubleshooting, or heavy-equipment experience is a plus
• Ability to use hand tools, power tools, precision measuring tools, and lifting equipment
• Ability to read basic blueprints, schematics, manuals, and work instructions
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Ability to work independently and as part of a field-service team
• Willingness to work outdoors and around wastewater environments
• Must follow all company and job-site safety requirements

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds independently and heavier items with assistance
• Ability to bend, kneel, climb, stand, and walk for extended periods
• Ability to work in confined spaces, wet areas, excavations, and around active utility systems
• Ability to work outdoors in heat, rain, humidity, and other changing weather conditions
• Ability to safely wear required personal protective equipment

Compensation

The position pays $20.00–$25.00 per hour , depending on mechanical experience, utility-industry knowledge, and overall qualifications.

Qualified candidates with pump, lift-station, wastewater, industrial-maintenance, millwright, or related field-service experience are encouraged to apply.
