Yardman

We’re hiring a yard/warehouse worker for a commercial roofing contractor requiring manual and semi-skilled labor. Fast-paced, busy roofing construction yard/warehouse requires a person to assist with maintenance of storage yards and related facilities, including such duties as manually loading and unloading materials, operating mechanical loading equipment, preparing materials and equipment for installation, and keeping accurate records of the receipt and issue of stored items. A supervisor issues instructions covering the major aspects of work; however, employees are required to use some judgment in applying storekeeping methods to their assignments. Work is reviewed through frequent inspections of inventory and yard conditions. Operates tow motor/forklift equipment to load and unload materials. Checks incoming materials, equipment, and supplies against packing slips; transport/move materials to the proper yard location; records all materials leaving the yard as needed. Keeps docks and scrap bins in an orderly condition; salvages reusable scrap materials. Keeps yard premises locked and secured as required. Keeps routine work records and inventories. Knowledge, Experience, Skills Requirements Previous tow motor and forklift experience. Sufficient physical strength and agility to perform the work – including the ability to lift 100 pounds, climb up, down and off of trucks/equipment. Some knowledge of the roofing industry, including materials and equipment. Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions. Ability to maintain simple records. Reliable and on-time on a daily basis, including transportation to and from work. Willingness and ability to learn the work practices and procedures applicable to construction yard operations.
