Fiber Splicer

Responsibilities Fusion splice SM or MM outside plant loose tube, inside plant tight buffered, and ribbon fiber optic cable. Prep, dress, and store fiber optic cabling to specifications and assemble equipment according to design specifications. Preparation of armored and non-armored cables, ribbon and loose tube fiber and mid-sheath applications. Perform live fiber cut‑overs during maintenance hours. Ability to troubleshoot damaged fiber effectively and efficiently. Proficient in using fiber tools and fiber optic test equipment including fusion splicer, power meter, OTDR, VFL and Traffic Identifier. Ability to read, understand and update splice documentation and maps as required. Perform other duties as required. Qualifications 1‑3 years of fiber splicing and testing. Working knowledge of the proper use and maintenance of fusion machines, OTDRs, power meters and tools of the trade. Organized, with strong attention to detail. Ability to work independently or in a team environment and communicate professionally with co‑workers and customers. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Requires a mixture of day and night work. Must have a valid driver’s license. Be available for 7‑day / 24‑hour stand‑by on‑call rotation as needed. Ability and willingness to work long and unpredictable hours if required, including work after normal business hours in the event physical restoration of fiber plant is needed. Ability to climb up and down ladders and operate a bucket truck is needed. Willingness to operate within a schedule that is subject to inclement weather conditions.
