Structural Team Leader

Position: Structural Team Leader Location: College Station, TX Job Id: 6607 # of Openings: 1 As a leader of Garver’s growing Water Design Center, the Structural Team Leader will be responsible for building, leading and managing a group of structural engineering professionals in support of various water/wastewater projects. Extensive background emphasis in concrete design for environmental structures, including high-volume, custom plant projects, will allow this team leader the opportunity to be hands-on with design, directly involved with clients, provide mentorship to team members and actively participate in marketing initiatives.What you’ll do:Generally, the responsibilities of this role will entail taking projects from conceptual planning to bid ready documents, including preliminary member sizing, design calculations, inter-discipline coordination, preparation of specifications, coordination with regional offices and quality assurance and control. Ideal candidates shall be capable of evaluating and designing a wide variety of materials including concrete, concrete masonry unit (CMU), steel aluminum and fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP).Day to day responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:Supporting regional teams with structural related business development activitiesPerform structural assessments of existing facilities for planning purposesDeveloping conceptual level structural designs for water and wastewater treatment facilities including but not limited to treatment process basins, chemical facilities, administration buildings, retaining walls, pump/ lift stations, tanks, vaults and other associated structuresDeveloping detailed structural designs, including contract documents (plans and specifications)Preparing design calculations and coordinating with other design disciplines for design of treatment facilitiesCoordinating with Garver regional teams for construction cost estimating and quality assurance and controlManaging and mentoring teams, coordinating schedules, monitoring project budgets, and ensuring delivery of quality work products which adhere to Garver standardizationBeing included in client meetings, industry conferences, and serving as a subject matter expert for the Water Business LineIn addition, the Structural Team Leader will be responsible for:Recruiting top talent for the structural teamDeveloping scope, schedule, level of effort, and fees for projectsManaging, mentoring and professional development for structural team membersDriving the detailed design through coordination with other support disciplinesPlanning, managing, and executing structural staff workloadCoordinating and maintaining project schedulesPlanning and monitoring budgetsComplying with the quality program, including ensuring delivery of quality work products that adhere to Garver standardizationDeveloping Structural standards and tools, procurement, and training in coordination with other WDC structural groupsTravelling occasionally as necessary to facilitate design, construction, or assessment of facilities or to perform workshopsSome travel may be required for business development purposes, including proposal development, interviews, knowledge transfer sessions, and industry related conference attendance. Project specific travel may also be required for site assessments, project workshops, design review meetings, and support during construction. Due to the collaborative nature of coordination for large infrastructure projects, candidates must have the ability to seek out and resolve issues through close interaction with other project team members. In addition, the candidate shall be able to maintain a positive team attitude and interpersonal effectiveness to recruit, develop and maintain an efficient and productive structural team. The structural group leader will also be responsible for coordinating structural team workload across Water Design Centers.About Garver's Water Infrastructure Design Center:The Water Infrastructure Design Center (WIDC) is a knowledge-based hub that excels in highly technical, multi-discipline water and wastewater designs for locations all across Garver’s footprint.
