Assistant Safety Manager

This role requires being onsite, with regularly scheduled travel to all Voyager locations. The Role The Assistant Safety Manager supports the development, implementation, and ongoing management of Voyager Industries' Safety Program across all locations. This hands‑on role works closely with employees and leaders to promote safe work practices, maintain regulatory compliance, identify and correct workplace hazards, and build a proactive safety culture. What You’ll Do: Safety Functions: Assist with the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Voyager’s safety programs, policies, procedures, and AWAIR program. Support compliance with OSHA, MNOSHA, and other applicable workplace safety requirements. Conduct routine safety inspections, audits, workplace observations, hazard assessments, and Job Safety Analyses. Oversee equipment and operator training requirements, including forklift, powered industrial truck, skid steer, and other applicable equipment; maintain qualification and training records. Support key safety programs including Lockout/Tagout, Hazard Communication/Right-to-Know, PPE, emergency response, machine safety, and safe equipment operation. Track safety trends and metrics and identify opportunities for program improvement. Maintain required safety documentation and records, including training, inspections, investigations, corrective actions, Safety Committee activities, SDS sheets, and applicable OSHA records. Maintain a visible presence within manufacturing operations and travel between Voyager locations as needed. Leadership & Team Responsibilities: Serve as a professional safety resource across Voyager Industries, providing functional guidance, training, and support to employees and leaders. Independently carry out assigned safety responsibilities, identify and address safety concerns, recommend corrective actions, and contribute to the continued development of Voyager’s Safety Program. Exercise authority to immediately address serious safety concerns and pause work when an imminent safety hazard exists until the condition can be appropriately evaluated and controlled. Professional Responsibility: Ability to exercise independent judgement within assigned areas of responsibility while recognizing when to elevate matters to the HR Manager. Maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive matters related to employees, medical, and business information. Work collaboratively with the HR Manager to prioritize Safety needs. Build effective relationships with employees and leaders and maintain a visible presence across all locations. Job Requirements: Associate or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, Industrial Safety, or related field preferred; equivalent education, training, and experience will be considered. Three or more years of workplace safety experience preferred, with manufacturing or industrial experience strongly preferred. Working knowledge of OSHA/MNOSHA requirements and general industry safety practices. Experience conducting safety inspections, incident investigations, and employee training preferred. OSHA 30-Hour General Industry certification and equipment Train-the-Trainer qualifications preferred or ability to obtain. Strong communication, training, organization, problem-solving, and follow-through skills. Ability to work effectively and build credibility with employees and leaders at all levels. Valid driver’s license and ability to regularly travel between Voyager locations required. Strong communication, training, organization, problem-solving, and follow-through skills.
