Electromechanical Assembly Team Supervisor
KFORM Defense
Job Description
Job Description
Build the hardware that safeguards critical missions
At Kform, we turn advanced concepts into reliable, field-ready systems for defense technology companies, established corporations, and government customers. Our vertically integrated operation—engineering, machining, fabrication, electronics assembly, system integration, test, and supply chain—moves programs from prototype to production with rigor and speed.
We value craftsmanship, precise documentation, and a relentless focus on reliability. If you lead from the front and take pride in disciplined execution, you’ll feel at home here.
Role overviewAs the Electromechanical Assembly Team Supervisor, you’ll guide a crew of Level I and Level II technicians building complex mechanical, electrical, and electromechanical products for mission-critical applications. You’ll set priorities, remove roadblocks, coach the team, and personally dive into builds—ensuring everything is assembled safely, correctly, on time, and to spec.
A day in the life- Kick off the shift by sequencing work against production schedules, material status, and technician skill sets.
- Roll up your sleeves to assemble, integrate, inspect, and test builds—mechanical hardware, wiring, cable routing, connectors, enclosures, and full system integration.
- Translate drawings, schematics, BOMs, work instructions, travelers, and specifications into clear tasks for the team.
- Mentor technicians on workmanship, tool use, torque control, safety, and process compliance; provide constructive feedback and evaluate performance.
- Track work-in-process, surface constraints, and coordinate with production leadership to maintain flow and hit milestones.
- Verify use of approved tools, materials, fixtures, torque settings, and documented processes.
- Lead in-process and final inspections for configuration, dimensions, hardware installation, workmanship, and product completeness.
- Drive functional testing, troubleshooting, rework, and repair using approved procedures and equipment.
- Resolve build issues—drawing discrepancies, component fit, materials, tooling, or process gaps—and log nonconformances with corrective actions in partnership with Engineering and Quality.
- Support prototypes and NPI, then harden methods for repeatable production: refine work instructions, fixtures, tooling, and processes.
- Maintain airtight records: travelers, labor entries, material usage, serial numbers, inspections, and test data.
- Ensure identification, configuration control, and traceability; segregate and handle conforming/nonconforming materials properly.
- Monitor performance, rework, productivity, and schedule adherence; escalate risks and propose improvements.
- Champion efficient use of labor, materials, and equipment without sacrificing quality or compliance.
- Keep workcells clean, organized, and safe—practice good housekeeping and 5S.
- Enforce Kform’s quality, safety, cybersecurity, export-control, and controlled-information procedures; protect customer data and hardware.
- Pitch in on adjacent manufacturing and production tasks as needed.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years in mechanical/electronics/electromechanical assembly or similar hands-on manufacturing environment.
- 2+ years leading, supervising, training, or coordinating assembly/production personnel.
- Fluent with mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, diagrams, BOMs, work instructions, travelers, and specs.
- Deep experience with hand/power/torque tools, precision measurement, and manufacturing equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and a record of solving complex build and integration issues.
- Background with quality systems; familiarity with AS9100 or equivalent standards.
- Ability to spot workmanship defects, dimensional errors, material discrepancies, and process deviations.
- Experience balancing assignments, priorities, and schedules in production.
- Proven trainer and mentor who upholds consistent workmanship and documentation.
- Exceptional organization, attention to detail, and ability to multitask across parallel builds.
- Comfort enforcing controlled processes, configuration, and documentation.
- Computer savvy with digital work instructions, production records, spreadsheets, and reporting tools.
- Clear communicator who collaborates well with technicians, engineers, quality, and management.
- Demonstrated leadership, problem solving, and sound decision-making.
- Reliable on-site presence in Sterling, Virginia.
- Eligible to work on export-controlled products, technical data, or programs as applicable.
- Led assembly teams in defense, aerospace, industrial, telecom, computing, robotics, or ruggedized electronics.
- Low-volume/high-mix builds, prototypes, or NPI experience.
- Hands-on with complex electromechanical systems, machined parts, sheet-metal enclosures, electronic systems, cable harnesses, or ruggedized equipment.
- Skilled in crimping, soldering, cable fabrication, wire prep, connector assembly, and system integration.
- Use of torque tools, calipers, multimeters, continuity testers, and electrical/mechanical inspection gear.
- Knowledge of IPC-A-610, IPC/WHMA-A-620, J-STD-001, ESD controls, or comparable workmanship standards.
- Experience in ISO 9001 or AS9100 environments.
- Familiar with travelers, inspection records, NCRs, corrective actions, and electronic manufacturing records.
- Developed or improved work instructions, fixtures, tooling, and training materials.
- Lean, Six Sigma, 5S, or other CI methods.
- Production metrics, bottleneck analysis, and efficiency improvement.
- Technical school, military technical training, apprenticeship, manufacturing certification, or vocational education.
- Track record building high-performing technical teams.
- Your team ships clean, accurate, reliable assemblies.
- Schedules are met without compromising workmanship, safety, or documentation.
- You demonstrate advanced hands-on skill and tackle tough build challenges.
- Assignments are clear; resources are in place; approved processes are followed.
- Level I/II technicians grow through your training, coaching, and feedback.
- Material, technical, quality, and schedule risks are surfaced early and mitigated.
- Records, traceability, configuration control, and quality documentation are airtight.
- Engineering and Quality see you as a go-to partner for DFM and issue resolution.
- Methods, tooling, organization, and productivity continuously improve.
- You own team performance, product quality, and completion of assigned builds.
- You connect daily execution to our customers’ mission outcomes.
This role is based on the factory floor. You may:
- Stand, sit, or walk between workstations for extended periods.
- Use hands/fingers frequently for small components, tools, fasteners, and wiring.
- Bend, reach, kneel, and move among production areas.
- Safely lift and move up to 50 lbs, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Wear required PPE.
- Work around machinery, fabrication operations, electronics, adhesives, and other production materials.
- Perform hands-on assembly while coordinating and supervising others.
- Work occasional overtime or flexible hours to support schedules.
We offer competitive compensation aligned with experience and demonstrated capability.
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance
- PTO and company holidays
- 401(k) retirement plan
- Training and professional development
- Opportunities to lead across prototypes, production, and advanced defense manufacturing
