Attorney MedMal ClaimsSpecialist - Hybrid

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client in NYC that is seeking an Attorney MedMal ClaimsSpecialist. This is a hybrid role - 2 days onsite per week in Midtown Manhattan.

Summary:
We are seeking 3 staff members to join its claims team supporting, one of the nation's largest and most complex healthcare organizations. This role requires a legal professional who can confidently evaluate high-exposure medical malpractice and complex liability claims, provide strategic recommendations, and effectively manage defense counsel throughout the litigation lifecycle.

This position is ideal for an attorney with strong litigation experience who understands complex medical and legal issues, can analyze medical records and causation, and is comfortable interacting with senior leadership, physicians, and outside counsel. The Medical Malpractice Claims Specialist will manage complex medical malpractice and liability claims from initial investigation through resolution. This role evaluates risk and exposure, develops claim strategies, oversees outside counsel, and provides recommendations to key stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:
* Investigate and evaluate medical malpractice and complex liability claims
* Review medical records, expert opinions, and legal documentation to assess liability, damages, and exposure
* Develop claim strategies and recommend reserves, escalation, or resolution options
* Manage outside defense counsel and monitor litigation activity, including discovery, motions, mediation, and trial preparation
* Identify high-exposure claims and communicate recommendations to leadership and clinical stakeholders
* Evaluate settlement opportunities and negotiate resolutions within established authority
* Maintain timely documentation, reporting, and escalation of significant claims
* Support high-exposure and reinsurance reporting as needed

REQUIREMENTS:
* Juris Doctor (JD) required
* Active Bar admission required
* 2-4+ years of attorney or litigation experience required; 3+ years strongly preferred
* Experience evaluating causation, damages, liability exposure, and litigation strategy
* Strong ability to review and analyze medical records, identify relevant clinical information, and assess its impact on claim exposure and defense strategy
* Prior law firm experience representing either plaintiffs or defendants in litigation matters preferred
* Courtroom experience, including motions practice, depositions, mediations, settlement conferences, or trials
* Experience with medical claims, healthcare litigation, or hospital-related matters is highly preferred
* Experience limited to only No-Fault or PIP claims will not be considered sufficient
* Strong communication, presentation, advocacy, and relationship-management skills

* Medical Malpractice
* General Liability (GL)
* Complex Personal Injury
* Labor Law
* Maritime claims

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
