Job Summary:

The ICU Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for coordinating and providing specialized nursing care to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients in the ICU/CCU setting. This role involves managing patients with serious respiratory and cardiac conditions, ensuring individualized, age-appropriate care. The nurse will work closely with interdisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality critical care, including float assignments to OB, Medical-Surgical, PACU, and Emergency Room based on competency. Strong clinical skills and the ability to work varied shifts are essential. Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and deliver nursing care to ICU/CCU patients with complex respiratory and cardiac needs.
  • Manage patient acuity with a typical patient ratio of 1:2, adjusting staffing as needed for ventilated patients.
  • Perform patient assessments, medication administration, and treatment planning consistent with ICU standards.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Participate in hospital and unit orientation including competency verification.
  • Float to other units such as OB, Medical-Surgical, PACU, and ER based on competency and unit needs.
  • Provide after-hours PACU recovery support as needed.
  • Maintain documentation and comply with hospital policies and procedures.
Required Skills & Certifications:
  • Active Registered Nurse license in the state of Hawaii.
  • Minimum of 2 years ICU or critical care nursing experience.
  • Strong clinical assessment, medication administration, and treatment planning skills.
  • Experience working with ventilated patients and critical care equipment.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills within interdisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
  • Completion of hospital and unit-specific orientation and competency requirements.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
  • Emergency Room experience.
  • Experience in PACU and Medical-Surgical nursing.
  • Competency in float assignments across multiple units.
Special Considerations:
  • Must be open to working any shifts with no exceptions.
  • Assignment requires working 80 hours every 2 weeks without exceptions.
  • Patient ratio typically 1:2 depending on acuity; additional nursing support provided for ventilated patients.
  • Orientation includes hospital HR process, in-service training, and unit-specific mentorship.
Scheduling:
  • 80 hours scheduled every 2 weeks.
  • Shift assignments include day and night shifts, with no exceptions to availability.
  • Orientation involves 1-2 day shifts followed by 1-2 night shifts with experienced staff.
