Senior Maintenance Worker

The County of Volusia is seeking a Senior Maintenance Worker for the Ocean Center. This position is located in Daytona Beach, Florida and will be responsible for semi-skilled manual labor in the performance of manual laboring tasks in a wide variety of construction and maintenance work.

Illustrative Duties

The following duties are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position:

• Operates commercial grade power washers, ATVs, floor scrubbers and sweepers, forklifts, scissor lift, boom lifts and other equipment as needed.
• Reads and utilizes event work orders and floor plans to set up/take down events.
• Performs venue set up for meetings, classroom training, theater, presentations, or banquets. Installs event specific equipment such as basketball court and goals, dance floor, staging, risers, etc.
• Performs minor plumbing repairs.
• May serve as a lead worker on a small work crew.
• Attends work on a regular and consistent basis.
• Performs entry level Maintenance Worker duties when necessary.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Must adhere to Federal, State, County and Local ordinances.
• Responds to emergency situations.
• May be assigned to other locations based upon operational needs.

Minimum Requirements

High School diploma or GED and one (1) year of experience as a Maintenance Worker with Volusia County or two (2) years of experience in construction and/or general maintenance work. A comparable amount of education and training may be substituted for the required experience. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

All knowledge, skills and abilities of lower levels of Maintenance Workers. Depending on assignment:

• Knowledge of equipment used in maintenance, and grounds keeping.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to safe operation of this equipment.
• Ability to fill out daily work sheets and other required forms.
• Ability to operate forklifts, scissor lifts (elevated platforms), ride-on floor maintenance equipment.
• Ability to interact effectively with others.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Ability to work under stressful conditions.
• All knowledge, skills and abilities of lower-level Maintenance Workers.
• Knowledge of equipment used in maintenance and grounds keeping.

ADA REQUIREMENTS: Physical Demands: Able to see, talk, and hear. Visual acuity to operate motor vehicles and machines. Peripheral vision. Able to pull, push, lift, carry 75 pounds, grasp, handle, climb, balance, reach overhead, bend, stoop. Able to traverse uneven, wet or broken terrain. Environmental Demands: Generally outside work. Able to tolerate inclement weather including but not limited to heat, humidity, wind, cold. May require exposure to chemicals, dust, insects, noise, fumes and confined areas. Mental Demands: Able to read and comprehend safety instructions, procedures, memos, and written directions. Able to write simple sentences relaying information.
