Sr Electrical Controls Engineer

Corning Optical Communications Segment – Project Engineer (Electrical) Role Purpose Provide electrical discipline support in the construction, installation, debugging, and startup of equipment and automated systems, predominantly working on the manufacturing floor at domestic and international sites. Supervise engineering technicians, maintenance staff, and external contract trades during all phases of equipment installation and conversion, including demolition, construction, testing, and debugging of production equipment. Project Engineer Responsibilities: Electrical Develop and use project plans and timelines to achieve project goals while maintaining safety, intellectual property, and quality standards. Ensure all project team members have required safety training and incorporate safety analysis in job plans. Develop understanding of process and equipment functions in the area of responsibility. Analyze and correct equipment installation practices to improve efficiencies and schedules. Interface with external system integrators and machine builders to deliver fully integrated process equipment systems on time and on budget. Perform hands‑on troubleshooting and direct engineering technicians and trades to replace defective components and resolve equipment/process issues. Provide training to internal or contract personnel on new equipment installation procedures. Review, modify, and maintain installation checklists, machine part lists, illustrations, machine specs, and drawing packages. Procure and expedite materials needed for new or modified equipment installations. Assess condition and usability of existing equipment for fit and function with new installation plans. Modify software programs used for process equipment control. Understand machine controls for analog and digital I/O requirements, control sequence logic, fail‑safe states, and recovery sequence. Assist in developing integrated industrial control systems for new manufacturing equipment and modifications. Redesign electrical components to reduce installation cost, eliminate interferences, and correct inadequate designs. Required Education / Skills: Electrical BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent. Minimum 5+ years of manufacturing or related experience. Knowledge of power systems for 480VAC and below. Ability to recommend the best solution from a series of alternatives within plant guidelines. Translate engineering solutions into requirements, process and/or equipment designs, and interpret electrical drawings and schematics. Collaborate effectively with IT, Mechanical, and Process engineering disciplines. Hands‑on proficiency with typical hand tools, instruments, and measurement/alignment devices. Flexible management of multiple work streams in a team environment with a strong focus on job‑site safety. Self‑starter, results‑oriented, and effective in presenting information to project, department, and site leaders. Desired Skills: Electrical Experience with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, Windows, Microsoft Office suite, PLC and PC base systems, Beckhoff PLC/Motion Control, B&R PLC Control, and automated equipment systems. Knowledge of regulatory compliance (NEC, NFPA70E, OSHA, etc.). Manufacturing floor or construction environment experience with emphasis on safety. Bias for action in uncertain situations and proactive problem resolution. Effective communication and presentation skills. Project management experience, including scope, budget, and schedule development. Knowledge of the optical fiber manufacturing process. PLC code development, SCADA/HMI development, PID control theory, and electro‑mechanical technical understanding. Travel Requirements Typical travel ranges from a few days to several weeks during project initiation; full‑time travel may be required during deployment. Travel to Corning Optical Fiber and Cable Manufacturing sites in North Carolina and possibly international locations. Hours Of Work/Work Schedule 40+ hours per week, Monday to Friday; adjusted hours and weekends may be required based on project lifecycle stage. This position does not support immigration sponsorship. Salary range: $105,622.00 – $145,231.00 (full‑time, based on geographic location, market, experience, training, and education).
