Animal Care Attendant – Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach

Full-time OR Part-time

Do you love animals and want a job where the work you do truly matters? The Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach is looking for dependable, hardworking and compassionate Animal Care Attendants to join our team.

This is a hands-on position caring for homeless dogs and cats while they wait for their second chance. Our Animal Care Attendants are a huge part of making sure the animals in our care are safe, comfortable, clean and loved every single day. Our mission is to improve the lives of animals and the people who love them.

What you'll do:

• Feed, water and provide daily care for dogs and cats
• Clean and sanitize kennels, cages, animal areas and common spaces
• Walk dogs and provide exercise, enrichment and socialization
• Monitor animals and report changes in health, behavior or appetite
• Assist with laundry, dishes and general shelter cleaning
• Help maintain a clean, safe and healthy environment for both animals and people
• Assist staff with handling and moving animals as needed
• Provide lots of patience, kindness and TLC to animals who may be scared, stressed or adjusting to shelter life
• Pitch in wherever needed— animal sheltering is definitely a team sport!

We're looking for candidates who:

• Truly care about animals and their wellbeing
• Are dependable and show up when scheduled
• Aren't afraid of hard work—or getting dirty!
• Can work safely around dogs and cats of different sizes, breeds, temperaments and energy levels
• Are comfortable with cleaning, including animal waste and other not-so-glamorous parts of shelter work
• Can follow instructions and work both independently and as part of a team
• Have good communication skills and a positive attitude
• Are physically able to stand, walk, bend, lift and be active throughout the shift
• Understand that animals need care 365 days a year , so weekend and holiday availability is required

Animal care or shelter experience is a plus, but we'll consider the right person who is dependable, compassionate and willing to learn.

This isn't a job where you'll spend your entire day cuddling puppies and kittens—although there is certainly some of that! ❤️ It's physical, sometimes messy and occasionally emotional work. But if you want to go home knowing that what you did that day made life better for an animal who needed you, this may be the job for you.

The Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach (HSNMB) is a 501(c)3 organization that focused on providing both the pets and citizens of our community of over 400,000 residents with the best service possible. It is our mission to provide quality care and treatment to our community’s homeless pets and enhance the quality of life for our community members by matching them up with pets that offer them the greatest gift of all: unconditional love. The shelter, located at 409 Bay Street in North Myrtle Beach, takes in over 1600 homeless pets annually. HSNMB is a no-kill shelter that is committed to saving all healthy and treatable pets entering its facility. The agency not only takes in homeless animals off the streets, but assists kill shelters by transferring in animals from those shelters so that the animals will not be euthanized. The agency also offers the following outreach programs: low-cost spay/neuter program, Trap Neuter Return program (for feral and community cats), low (and free) vaccine/micro-chip clinics, Pet Food Pantry and Humane Education Youth Program.
