Controller

Directs and oversees all accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, payroll, treasury, internal controls, and compliance functions for a construction company, focused on utility infrastructure and site/civil work. Responsible for the accuracy and integrity of financial information. Partners with executive leadership and operational teams to support strategic decision-making, regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and the organization's long-term financial success. The company is part of a consortium of related utility infrastructure construction companies operating throughout New York State and beyond. This role will play a pivotal role in the financial and operational success of the group of companies. Pay: $125,000.00 - $145,000.00 per year ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: ·Direct, coordinate, and oversee all accounting and financial operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll administration, fixed assets, capital project accounting, treasury, cash management, cost accounting, and financial reporting. ·Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP; maintain the integrity of the general ledger, chart of accounts, account reconciliations, and supporting financial records. ·Participate in the budget process, financial forecasting, and performance analysis; monitor key financial metrics, evaluate variances, and provide recommendations to executive leadership and the board of directors. ·Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies, internal controls, financial procedures, and reporting systems to ensure compliance, operational efficiency, and the safeguarding of company assets. ·Manage cash flow, banking relationships, debt obligations, investments, and other treasury functions to support the company's financial stability and long-term strategic plans. ·Oversee all payroll functions, including payroll processing, payroll tax reporting, employee deductions, benefits administration, and compliance with applicable federal and state employment regulations. ·Oversee the financial administration of all construction projects, including budgeting, invoicing, cost tracking, contract payment reviews, capital expenditure monitoring, financial reporting, and analysis of project performance against budgets and funding sources. ·Analyze operating expenses, capital expenditures, labor costs, and project costs; evaluate the financial impact of operational, regulatory, and capital investment decisions and recommend corrective actions as needed. ·Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local financial, tax, regulatory, grant, and reporting requirements; coordinate internal and external audits, regulatory reviews, and financial examinations. ·Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting and payroll staff; evaluate accounting systems and processes and implement improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and internal controls. ·Maintain productive relationships with financial institutions, auditors, consultants, regulators, contractors, and other stakeholders while ensuring adherence to company policies, safety standards, and organizational objectives. ·Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned. MINIMUM SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required. Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including management responsibilities. Previous experience in construction required. Experience in the utilities, energy, infrastructure, or regulated industry environment preferred. Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting standards, budgeting, forecasting, payroll administration, and internal controls. Proficiency in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, and Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced expertise in Excel for financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and data management. Demonstrated leadership, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Ability to pass a drug test, background check, and medical evaluation if required. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions in English related to job duties and safety requirements. WORKING CONDITIONS: Office work environment. Extended periods of computer, accounting, payroll, and financial data analysis work. Frequent interaction with executive leadership, operations personnel, auditors, and external stakeholders.
