Database Engineer IIThe Database Engineer II is a key member responsible for the company's database environment. This role is responsible for the engineering and delivery of effective, scalable, and secure database solutions. This role is responsible for ensuring problems are quickly resolved and long-term solutions are developed to prevent recurrence. This DBA works under the guidance of more senior team members and provides support to other infrastructure and application development/support teams.A role in Information Technology at UNFI involves being a part of the transformation of food for all through many innovative technology products such as myUNFI, our customer ordering platform or our warehouse management systems that optimize service. Roles include network automation, infrastructure unification and modernization, data services and analytics, and digital offering.Job Responsibilities:Gather business requirements through collaboration with other IT and business teamsPerform activities related to the day-to-day administration of transactional databases to ensure availabilityDecide appropriate solutions through applying technical knowledge, solutions may range from upgrades, patches, backup and recovery, monitoring or configurationCommunicate determined solutions to team members and direct managementEvaluate and execute requests and work ordersParticipates in the implementation and optimization of enterprise infrastructure solutions, ensuring alignment with the existing technologies.Applies technical expertise in decision making and in the resolution of problems which are complex and technical in naturePreventative maintenance measures are applied to ensure incidents don't occur in the environment.Collaborate with teams to promote automation and develop consistent technical build, implementation and support processes.Utilize standard enterprise tools to develop or implement infrastructure hardware, software or other technical components.Observe and comply with company change and incident management procedures.Performs other duties as required.Job Requirements:Education/ Certifications:Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related discipline or a combination of relevant IT experience and educationExperience:5+ years' experience administering MS SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, or other DBMS's5+ years' experience working in large scale database environmentsExperience with writing SQL and scripting languages (e.g., Transact-SQL PL-SQL, Powershell, Korn, etc.).Prior application programming experience is preferred.Proven experience with database performance tuning using tools like SQL Profiler, Idera, AWR, ASH, ADDM, etc.Experience with server virtualization tools from such vendors as VMWare, Microsoft, Red Hat, Oracle, Amazon, Google.Experience with Cloud hosting from such vendors as Amazon, Microsoft, Google, Oracle, and IBM.Experience using tools for monitoring, capacity planning, analysis, and performance tuning (e.g. Idera, OEM, CloudWatch, etc).Experience implementing highly available database solutions in a large-scale environment.Must have solid experience backing up and recovering databasesProven experience implementing and supporting disaster recovery plans and procedures.Experience implementing scalable database solutions is preferred.Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:Knowledge of assigned specific technical domainAbility to work independently and break down assigned work into workable tasksCommunication skills written and verbalAbility to collaborate across teams to achieve resultsAbility to create well written technical documentation.Good judgment is required for this position as there may be times when direct supervision may not be immediately available.Work Environment:Remote Role:This position is classified as remote where the associate will perform remote work from their primary residence. Remote associates are welcome to work from the office but are not required to do so.
