Risk Management Specialist

Job Overview The RN Clinical Risk Management Specialist oversees the patient and family grievance process, monitors quality of care and patient safety concerns in the clinical setting, and supports Kaweah Health directors, managers, and staff with risk management initiatives. Key Responsibilities Provide clinical risk management support to Kaweah Health staff, assisting in investigation of risk issues and patient care problems. Investigate risk, complaints, and grievance issues or occurrences, responding to telephone calls from Kaweah Health managers or staff and collaborating with department managers in investigations. Review and analyze patient medical records for documentation, communicating medical staff issues to the Medical Staff Office. Assist the RM Coordinator with legal claims/complaints documentation and grievance investigations. Develop and present risk management orientation materials for new clinical staff and managers; collaborate with the RM Director and Clinical Education Director. Coordinate DHS visits and reporting activities, maintain the DHS filing system, and support action plan development. Monitor the Occurrence Reporting database daily, conduct investigations, notify the RM Director of high severity or high‑risk occurrences, and provide monthly reports with trend analysis. Establish a regular monthly schedule to visit all Kaweah Health campuses and units to evaluate clinical risk issues and recommend improvements. Attend and participate in Kaweah Health committees as directed, providing feedback and recommendations. Manage the RM Department and Kaweah Health RM activities in the absence of the RM Director. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications CA RN license required. Preferred: Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) and BSN, MSN, or enrollment in an RN‑BSN program. At least two years of hospital acute‑care experience. Excellent critical thinking, analytical, written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently with little supervision.
