JOB TITLE: DIRECTOR OF EVANGELIZATION

REPORTS TO: CHIEF OF STAFF

FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time, Exempt

JOB PRIMARY PURPOSE/FUNCTION

Inspired by the mission of the Diocese of Davenport, "As a Eucharistic community, we live out Jesus' call to go and make disciples of all nations and to love God and neighbor," the Director of Evangelization serves as a strategic leader who advances a culture of missionary discipleship throughout the Diocese. The Director collaborates with Diocesan offices, parishes, schools, clergy, religious, and lay leaders to proclaim the Gospel in ways that are compelling, invitational, and relevant to today's world. Through the integrated use of evangelization, storytelling, communication, marketing, and digital engagement, the Director assists parishes and Diocesan ministries to share the mission of the Church given by Jesus Christ. The Director develops and implements strategies that inspire engagement, strengthen parish vitality, foster belonging, and reach those who have become disconnected from the Church as well as those who have never encountered the Gospel.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Develop and implement a Diocesan evangelization strategy aligned with the mission and vision of the Diocese and the priorities established by the Bishop and Diocesan leadership. B. Develop and support parish evangelization teams with new initiatives and ideas for a neighborhood mindset and evangelization plan that meet the needs of the people of God within the parish territory. C. Nurture faith-based story-telling and communication skills amongst pastors, principals, local leaders, and parishioners to share their personal and communal faith story that invites participation and engages communities. D. Form local leaders in digital evangelization that develops short and long-term responses to emerging trends in evangelization. E. Collaborate with Diocesan communication, technology, and other Diocesan offices to ensure communication supports evangelization, missionary discipleship, and parish engagement through websites, social media, video, print media, etc. F. Utilize marketing principles, audience research, and digital communication strategies to reach active Catholics, inactive Catholics, seekers, and those with little or no connection to the Church. G. Establish metrics and evaluation tools to assess the effectiveness of evangelization and outreach efforts throughout the Diocese. H. Represent the Office of Evangelization at meetings of Diocesan groups as needed. I. Maintain contact with Diocesan and national organizations as needed, especially the Diocesan Directors of Evangelization group hosted by the USCCB. J. Plan and administer the office budget. K. Assume additional responsibilities as needed or directed.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

A. Advanced degree in theology, pastoral ministry or related field. Lay ministry formation program preferred. B. A minimum of five years of experience in evangelization. C. Experience in a team-oriented, interdepartmental approach in collaborating with various offices, parishes, schools, staffs, volunteers and college communities.

QUALIFICATIONS

A. Effective oral and written communication; bilingual abilities are preferred. B. Demonstrate experience in strategic communication, public relations, digital engagement, or related fields. C. Interpersonal professional relationships, both internally and externally to the Diocese of Davenport that encourage openness, candor and trust. D. Sound, competent decision-making and maintenance of confidentiality with regard to all sensitive information. E. Flexibility in performing designated duties. F. Acceptance of personal inconvenience for attainment of Diocesan goals. G. Practicing Roman Catholic with an ability to articulate the Church's theology and teaching. H. Understand, support and articulate the theology of evangelization in the broadest sense as taught by the Church. I. Sensitivity to cultural diversity and needs within the Church, including the ability to interpret data and trends to support evangelization and engagement objectives. J. Ability to use current technology, including Canva or similar platforms. K. Ability to communicate the Catholic faith through multiple media platforms and audiences with strong storytelling, content creation, and presentation skills.

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

A. High ability to analyze and interpret information pertinent to the areas of responsibility. B. Ability to perform designated duties under frequent time constraints. C. Ability to work irregular hours as required to accomplish the responsibilities of the position. D. Ability to travel by automobile, as needed, in the course of the position. E. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, talk, hear, reach and sit for prolonged periods of time, and handle items and perform repetitive motions of the hands/wrists. The employee is required to occasionally lift and move items weighing up to 30 pounds.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND CONDITIONS

A. A majority of the assigned duties are performed in a well-ventilated, well-lighted and temperature-controlled office environment. B. The employee is subject to both internal and external environmental conditions, including extreme cold and extreme heat. C. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

A. None.

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS

A. The position can expect an evaluation in the first six months of employment by the Bishop or Chief of Staff, with annual evaluations thereafter. B. Salary considerations commensurate with education and experience. C. The employee understands and agrees that employment in the Diocese of Davenport and any Diocesan entity is contingent on compliance with the Diocesan safe environment policies, procedures and requirements.
