Position Details Position: Phlebotomist 5253 Location: Escondido, CA Schedule: 7:30 am – 4:30 pm, Monday‑Friday Projected duration: 3 months plus potential for permanent employment Job code: CVDJP00035253 Pay rate: $23.00 per hour Benefits: available Required experience: pediatric and geriatric drawing, hard‑stick experience. Responsibilities Collect and store specimens according to established procedures. Explain the venipuncture (blood drawing) and other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) in a clear, courteous manner. Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Fully understand all physicians’ orders. Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order. Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy. Package specimens for transport and store samples according to required temperature. Follow procedures for transport to maintain specimen integrity. Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual department trainings. Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Perform additional assigned duties, troubleshoot, train staff and recommend workflow improvements. Minimum Qualifications Valid phlebotomy certification for the state of employment. Minimum of 6 months of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast‑paced lab or hospital setting.
