The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine announces an outstanding opportunity for a full-time clinical faculty position in Small Animal Oncologic Surgery at the rank of assistant or associate professor. The appointee would be joining two other surgical oncology faculty within the department. Candidates must have a demonstrated commitment to excellence in patient management, client service, and clinical teaching. Specialty board certification (ACVS) and the title of ACVS Fellow, Surgical Oncology are required. The appointee will join the Integrated Oncology Service within the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences which currently consists of eight faculty positions (two surgical oncologists, four medical oncologists, and two radiation oncologists) as well as six medical oncology residents, one radiation oncology resident, one surgical oncology research intern and one surgical oncology fellow candidate. The appointee will also be within the Small Animal Surgery Section consisting of nine additional full-time surgeons.

Clinical-track candidates will have up to 65% of their time assigned to clinical service including patient management, client service, clinical teaching of students and advanced training of interns, residents and fellows. The Department and College are particularly interested in advancing the surgical oncology program and the associated Integrated Oncology Service. Sponsored research is not required for clinical track faculty, but contributing to clinical research, publications, and other scholarly activities to advance clinical veterinary medicine is expected and encouraged.

The Integrated Oncology service is located within the comprehensive Veterinary Medical Center, Hospital for Companion Animals, with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment including diagnostic imaging (3-Tesla MRI, 128-slice CT, and GE Omni 32 PET/CT) and linear accelerator (Varian Edge with HD120 MLC) with stereotactic radiation therapy capability. Our goal is to build upon current success and to augment and advance the clinical, research, and teaching components of the Integrated Oncology Service. The surgical oncology team has access to a large, diverse caseload with patients referred throughout the Midwest and beyond. A hallmark of the program is an established surgical oncology fellowship training program. The appointee will actively participate in the training of surgical oncology fellow candidates, surgery and medical oncology residents, and interns.

Performance Objectives

TEACHING DUTIES

Clinical, didactic, and laboratory teaching of professional students, interns, residents and fellows in the Surgical Oncology section within the Integrated Oncology Service, in conjunction with the diagnosis and treatment of patients presented to The OSU Veterinary Medical Center.

CLINICAL SERVICE AND OUTREACH DUTIES

All aspects of patient care associated with a busy surgical oncology practice including: patient management, client care, communication with referring DVMs, consulting with colleagues, medical record keeping, professional development, and participation in public relations activities.

RESEARCH AND SCHOLARLY DUTIES

Use of scheduled off-clinic time for preparing teaching materials, conducting research, writing for publication, and other scholarly activities.

Education and Experience Requirements

Required :

• DVM (or equivalent veterinary degree)
• Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS)
• ACVS Fellow, Surgical Oncology

Desired :

• Experience in the classroom and laboratory teaching of veterinary students
• Experience in the clinical training of veterinary students
• Experience in the training of interns, residents, and fellows / graduate students
