Registered Nurse (RN) - L&D

As an RN in Labor and Delivery, you manage obstetric care, fetal monitoring, labor support, and postpartum recovery, ensuring safety for both mother and baby.

You collaborate with obstetricians, midwives, and neonatal teams to coordinate care across the perinatal period.

Responsibilities

• Triage labor patients and monitor maternal and fetal status throughout labor.
• Administer medications for labor and postpartum needs per protocol.
• Assist during delivery and support immediate newborn care and resuscitation if needed.
• Provide postpartum teaching and support for newborn care and family planning.
• Document labor progress, interventions, and outcomes in the EHR.
• Coordinate with neonatal and maternal-fetal teams for ongoing care and discharge planning.

Qualifications

Education:

Graduate of an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred; ADN with obstetric care exposure acceptable.

Licensure:

Current, active RN license in the state of employment.

Certifications:

• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) recommended

Experience or Skills:

Experience in labor and delivery, obstetric nursing, or perinatal care; strong skills in fetal monitoring and patient education.

Experience

• 2–4 years of obstetric or perinatal nursing experience.
• Experience with high-risk pregnancies and newborn care coordination.

Preferred

• BSN; additional perinatal certifications; NRP certification.

Work Environment

Hospital labor and delivery unit with continuous fetal monitoring and potential emergencies.

Shift patterns may include days, evenings, nights, and weekends; teamwork with obstetricians, midwives, and neonatal teams; comprehensive documentation in the EHR.
