Continuous Operator

Operates, monitors, and assists in the drying and finishing processes, which involve the drying; the automated cutting; the visual inspecting; and the manual stacking of dried, formed products. Those products are supplied to the kiln area where they are fired in kilns, in which ceramic products are produced that meet the required specifications & quality standards.

Essential duties and responsibilities include performing established start-up procedures, verifying finishing machine set-up, inspecting greenbody wooden pallets, calculating and verifying the number of layers and pieces of greenbody, entering complete and accurate process information, determining maximum allowable values for dimensional characteristics, calculating accepted, rejected and handled part quantities, performing re-inspection tasks, completing the Drying/Finishing Activities Log, starting dryer operations, calculating relay evaporation ratio, checking continuous dryer conditions, adjusting machine settings, working safely, participating in PM, MMOL, and G5S activities, following all EMS procedures, and having no supervisory responsibilities.

Required education and experience include successfully completing all required job training, a high school diploma or general education degree (GED), 6 month manufacturing/warehousing experience or equivalent, and CRC Bronze or above. Required language skills include the ability to read and comprehend work instructions and communicate information in one-on-one and small group situations. Required mathematical skills include the ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Required reasoning ability includes the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions and deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Preferred qualifications include basic knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) software and certified production technician program completion.

Physical demands include standing, walking, using hands to finger, handle, or feel, reaching with hands and arms, talking or hearing, sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, or crouching, and lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 25 pounds. Work environment includes exposure to moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, vibration, wet or humid conditions, high, precarious places, extreme heat, and loud noise.

Safety requirements include wearing safety shoes, safety goggles, and task appropriate gloves.
