Job Summary

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our EtaPRO Software Engineering team in Amherst, NY. The Senior Software Engineer provides advanced technical leadership in the design, development, and evolution of EtaPRO software solutions. This role leads complex engineering efforts, influences architecture and design direction, and helps ensure the delivery of secure, scalable, and reliable software. The Senior Software Engineer is expected to operate as a senior technical contributor, mentor engineers across multiple levels, and play a key role in shaping engineering standards and practices.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Solution Design

• Lead the design and implementation of complex systems, features, and integrations
• Drive technical decision-making for architecture, design patterns, and implementation approaches
• Own major technical areas, services, or product subsystems
• Evaluate trade-offs related to maintainability, scalability, performance, and delivery timelines
• Resolve high-impact technical issues and support root-cause analysis across systems

Engineering Quality & Process Improvement

• Set and maintain high standards for code quality, security, testing, and maintainability
• Lead code reviews for complex changes and guide engineers on design and implementation quality
• Improve engineering workflows, development standards, and technical practices
• Drive reduction of technical debt and improvement of long-term system health
• Promote secure software development aligned with SDLC and compliance expectations

Cross-Functional & Team Impact

• Partner with product, QA, DevOps, support, and leadership on technical planning and delivery
• Mentor developers and senior developers through technical coaching and architectural guidance
• Help align technical execution with business priorities and product goals
• Communicate technical strategy, trade-offs, and risks to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Contribute to hiring, interviews, onboarding, and capability development as needed

Work Experience

• 5+ years of progressive software development experience
• Demonstrated success designing, developing, and delivering complex software solutions
• Experience leading technical initiatives, major features, or significant components of a software system
• Proven ability to mentor engineers and influence technical decisions
• Experience evaluating architectural trade-offs related to scalability, maintainability, performance, and security
• Strong track record of driving software quality and engineering best practices

Required Skills

• Advanced proficiency in.NET development (C#/VB.NET) in a Visual Studio environment, C++ experience a plus
• Experience with WPF, WinForms, MVVM, and.NET
• 5+ years of experience with Test Driven Development (TDD), refactoring, simple design, clean code, etc.
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
• Experience working in Agile software development environments

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong expertise with Microsoft SQL Server and/or PostgreSQL, including database design, optimization, performance tuning, and data integration
• Advanced experience developing and architecting solutions using Blazor, ASP.NET, APIs, and distributed systems
• C++ development experience
• Ability to design, review, and guide implementation of scalable, maintainable, and secure software solutions
• Strong working knowledge of Agile development practices, CI/CD processes, source control systems, and automated testing frameworks
• Experience with test instrumentation, data acquisition, and data processing

Languages

• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English

Travel

• Ability to travel occasionally if asked (5%)
