People Relations Specialist

Overview Retail People Relations (RPR) is a globally connected team within People, Communications & Culture, responsible for delivering expert People Relations support across bp’s retail COCO network. RPR team members partner with business leaders, People & Culture teams, legal, and external collaborators to provide consistent, high‑quality guidance on general RPR queries, policy interpretation, workplace investigations, disciplinary actions, grievance resolution, business change and Industrial Relations. Role Purpose Provide frontline support to employees and managers, coaching managers, answering queries, handling non‑reportable and some direct actions concerns, raising complex concerns, providing administrative support and ensuring consistent application of policies across the business. Responsibilities Concern Triage & Escalation – record and categorize concerns in the Case Management System; prioritize based on urgency/complexity; meet SLA targets. Query Resolution – support full employee life‑cycle query resolution; respond to basic process and policy questions on life events, time and attendance, performance, compensation and exits. Administrative Support – create and update concerns in the case system; produce letters, e‑filing, schedule meetings and perform other ad‑hoc administrative tasks. Concern Handling – manage transactional PR concerns (non‑reportable, some direct‑action, low‑level performance, grievances, disciplinary). Escalate to RPR Advisors or Senior Advisors as required. Coaching Leaders – guide managers on policy interpretation and process execution. Policy Feedback – identify opportunities for improvement based on trend analysis and team member feedback. Continuous Improvement – seek advice on unclear processes, suggest solutions, support knowledge creation and maintenance. Compliance – maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of People Relations policies; ensure accurate application in line with local legislation and bp policies; record and triage concerns promptly in the Case Management System and Workday. Risk Management – identify potential People Relations risks, share with leaders, and recommend mitigation where possible. Psychological Safety – act as the first point of contact, handle all concerns with empathy and care, recognize and refer wellbeing concerns, and maintain a respectful, non‑judgmental approach. Required Qualifications & Skills Ability to manage and triage employee queries and low‑level concerns. Understanding and interpretation of People Relations policies and procedures. Strong customer service and communication skills. Basic understanding of employment law and policy interpretation. Customer focus, problem‑solving, attention to detail, psychological safety consciousness. Psychological safety – ability to handle employee concerns with empathy and care. Continuous learning, analytical thinking, agile core principles, resilience, teamwork, coaching, customer‑centric thinking. Essential Experience Experience in people relations, employee relations or a related field. Demonstrated ability to triage and manage complex concerns within a high‑volume environment. Experience with case management or HRIS systems. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
