Position Overview SUMMARY Perform point‑to‑point wiring of cabinets, chassis, panels, cable installation, and full flight simulator systems wiring on board and off board, installing, and securing cabling under raised floors and up on ladder racks. Building of complex cable assemblies. Essential Duties and Responsibilities You will basically do all the wiring in a full motion aircraft simulator that is built for the military. This is a hands‑on working position; it is not only a bench job. Travel: The position involves traveling about half of the year. Trips are typically 3–4 weeks for installations, sometimes longer or shorter up to 1–2 days. You need to be able to travel extensively, often with short notice and from one site directly to the next without stopping home. You will work 60 hours, 6 days a week when traveling (Mon‑Sat), with time and a half after 40 hours, and sometimes rotating shifts. The company provides a corporate American Express card for travel expenses, a laptop computer, and all tools needed. Company pays the GSA maximum per diem: Non‑Taxable $59–$79 CONUS, $62–$157 OCONUS as of 2023. Additional travel expenses: Airfare and rental car (usually 2 or 3 employees share a car). Reimburses tolls, parking, currency exchange fees, excess cell phone charges when traveling. Reimburses up to $30 USD per week for laundry when traveling 7 days or more. Pays for steel‑toe shoes/boots yearly or as needed. Provides passport, Global Entry, and original renewals. Technical Skills: Ability to read work orders, follow production and sample assemblies, diagrams, wire lists or verbal instructions. Assist with selection of wires, colors, marking, and length, and looping wires between guide pegs on harness board following color‑coded lines or sequence numbers. Assist with wire measurements, cutting, marker installations and terminations per wire list and workmanship standards. Assist with wire installations in cabinets, trainer system wiring, and component lead wires to printed circuit assemblies or between individual component leads and connectors. Perform wire continuity verification using continuity tester. Learn and gain proficiency in lug and contact pin crimping operations, fabrication of complete cable assemblies, creation and application of wire or harness identification labels. Assist with work assignments from trainer system hardware logs. Install cable harnesses and clamps, cable tie harnesses, and assist with wire routing, lacing and layout. Basic knowledge of electrical and mechanical hand tools: wire strippers (manual and pneumatic), crimpers (manual and pneumatic), hand cutters, heat gun, hot air sleeve solder gun, soldering iron, wire wrap tool, continuity tester, tape measure, ribbon cable connector assembly tool, etc. Basic understanding of military and commercial workmanship standards is required. Willing to assume work assignments away from the facility for extended periods for site installations and willing to work rotating shifts. Aptitude for working from wire lists, assembly drawings, schematics, engineering orders, engineering change orders, engineering logs, workmanship standards and manufacturing procedures/work instructions. Basic computer skills for time reporting and work order processing. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to present information in one‑on‑one situations. Basic arithmetic skills: add and subtract two‑digit numbers and multiply/divide with 10’s and 100’s. Perform work assignments with minimal supervision. Apply common sense, carry out detailed written or oral instructions, and solve problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Comfortable working at heights on ladders, scissor lifts, boom lifts, scaffolding and on top of trainers while using proper fall protection when required. When not traveling, work a 9/80 schedule, having every other Friday off. Overtime, optional or mandatory, paid at time and a half after 40 hours a week. Obtain company’s expense J‑STD‑001 Soldering certification, IPC/WHMA‑A‑620 requirements for manufacture of cable, wire and harness assemblies’ certification, forklift certification. Assist with other trades when needed and troubleshoot problems with technicians and/or project engineers. Assist in loading and unloading trucks.
