Employment Type Full time Shift Day Shift Responsibilities Prepares patients for office visit, takes vital signs and records them in the medical record, obtains patient chief complaint, escorts patient to exam room, and prepares patient for physician visit. Assures patients are ready in the exam rooms for physician/mid-level provider arrival. Reviews patient medical record to ensure all needed test results, forms, and reports are available to the physician/provider. Assists physicians/providers with procedures and processes specimens according to established protocols. Performs in-office testing in the direction of physician/provider: EKGs, vision testing, strep tests, urinalysis, suture removals, injections, immunizations, etc. Assists physicians with completion of patient forms as requested by third parties. Arranges patient hospital admissions and test scheduling. Maintains exam rooms, ensuring supplies and equipment are in working order and conditions are clean. Maintains clinical areas and drug sample areas in compliance with Joint Commission and regulatory agencies. May be required to assist with patient phone triage and prescription refill calls. Assists with managed care referral processes, pre-authorization, pre-certification, and scheduling of appointments with other physicians or ancillary departments. Documents patient phone calls and advice/treatment in the medical record. Assists physicians with preventive medicine tracking (e.g., mammograms, HbA1c for diabetics, well-baby and well-child exams). Maintains patient confidentiality and discusses patient information only in appropriate private settings. Other duties as assigned. Education and Certification Must hold a CMA, RMA, CCMA, or NCMA certification through an NCCA accredited program (American Association of Medical Assistants, American Medical Technologists, National Health Career Association or National Center for Competency Testing), or be a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) licensed in Michigan, or be eligible to register for the exam through one of the approved providers and attain certification within six months of hire. Two years of previous clinical experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred. Formal education in medical terminology and anatomy & physiology is preferred. Required Skills and Abilities Familiarity with common prescription drugs. Demonstration of competency in obtaining accurate vital signs and performing in-office procedures. Participation in and knowledge of mandatory safety education and environment of care (infection control, universal precautions, medical waste disposal, quality control, proficiency testing, electrical safety, sterilization techniques, etc.).
