Job Responsibilities Perform all respiratory procedures: aerosol therapy, ABG’s, oxygen therapy, ventilator care, overnight oximetry, and resuscitations for adult and neonatal patients. Provide clinical assessment on all patients on respiratory services, offering recommendations to attending or ordering physicians. Actively participate in department inservice educational programs. Be flexible and willing to rotate shifts or work odd schedules as needed. Orient new employees and/or students to department as requested. Participate in department projects and programs as requested. Education and Experience Requirements Current AHA Healthcare Provider CPR certification or equivalent within 3 months of hire required. Currently licensed in the state of Connecticut required. Certificate of Respiratory Therapy required, Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by NBRC preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Active member in good standing with the AARC. Read prescriptions, draw arterial blood gases, and review patient information to assess patient condition and determine treatment requirements. Determine most suitable inhalant administration method and precautions to observe, modifying as needed per physician orders. Set up and operate mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators. Function effectively under stress, prioritize workload, and make appropriate decisions. Communicate well with physicians, hospital staff, patients, and the general public.
