The APWU Health Plan is seeking a Senior Staff Accountant in our Finance Department to interpret and administer corporate accounting policies ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and Governmental policies, regulations and limitations.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITION INCLUDE:

Prepare variance reports, financial projections, financial statements and supporting schedules.

Manage the Health Plan’s Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHB) cash flow position including Letter of Credit drawdown.

Perform monthly, quarterly and year-end closing journal entries for Health Plan’s Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHB).

Act as liaison to external audit team and facilitate annual audits for Health Plan’s Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHB) and 401k Plan Audits.

Complete special projects and reports as requested by senior management.

Provide back up to Senior Accountant and Staff Accountant II.

Operate within the unit budget.

Perform reconciliations for Health Plan’s Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHB).

Supervise, motivate and counsel direct reports.

Update standards and unit procedures on a timely basis.

Administer Health Plan personnel policies/CBA accurately and equitably.

Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION ARE:

B.S. Degree in Accounting or Finance.

Professional certification as Certified Public Accountant preferred.

Minimum of 5 to 8 years’ experience in accounting or audit position.

Working knowledge of the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FARS) and federal reporting requirements.

Must be capable of obtaining/maintaining government clearance through OPM.

Excellent analytical and time management skills.

Good verbal and written communication skills.

PC skills necessary and experience in the use of automated accounting systems preferred and working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
