Position Summary: Under the supervision of the physicianaccording to established practice guidelines and utilizing evidence-based clinical practice standardsprovides inpatient management, consultation, and co-management of medical and patients.

Responsibilities:

• Manages patients using the highest degree of independence with minimal physician supervision in a highly specialized area across the continuum.
• Assesses the physical and psychosocial status of patients by means of interview, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic studies, and recognizes deviations from the normal.
• From this, develops a diagnosis, and works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to formulate and implement the treatment plan.
• Performs complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, as credentialed, in diagnosing medical and surgical problems and prescribing necessary treatment and services for quality patient care.
• Assists in teaching students, residents, and interns in complex techniques and procedures.
• Implements appropriate management based on laboratory results, physical assessment, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures, admission and discharge care in accordance with evidence-based medicine.
• Initiates appropriate actions to facilitate the implementation of therapeutic plans that are consistent with the continuing healthcare needs of patients.
• Writes or dictates patient progress notes, discharge summaries, and clinical resumes that are concise throughout.
• Prescribes medication.
• Performs patient education and maintains provision of preventive health services.
• Conducts or participates in multidisciplinary rounds.
• Works with supervising physician to determine and place appropriate specialty consultations.
• Participates in quality initiatives to ensure consistent attainment of key quality indicators.
• Performs advanced cardiac life support.
• In medical emergencies, will act on behalf of the supervising medical staff member to maintain life support until a licensed physician arrives to manage the patient.
• Triages patients.
• Shares clinical expertise with professional and supportive personnel, and collaborates with other healthcare disciplines to ensure continuity and quality of care.
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
• Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
• Acts as a role model and resource person for staff.
• Participates in review and revision of policies and procedures.
• Establishes relationships with professionals of other health-related groups within the community.
• Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication with diverse populations, including physicians, employees, patients, and families.

Qualifications:

Education/Training:

• Nurse Practitioner MN or MSN or DNP or PhD or DNS degree in nursing.
• Physician Assistant Graduate of accredited physician assistant program.

Licensure/Certification:

• Nurse Practitioner APRN license in the state of Florida. After July 1, 2006, licensure applicants are required to have national advanced certification from an approved nursing specialty board. Maintains current BLS certification.
• Physician Assistant Maintain current physician assistant licensure in State of Florida. Maintain current BLS/healthcare certification.
