Physical Therapist Assistant - Tappahannock Hospital

The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) is primarily responsible for the delivery of Physical Therapy care to the patient population to which she/he is assigned and the recording of that care in the hospital medical record. The PTA acts as a consultant to various patient populations. The PTA must work under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist according to the laws and practice regulations of the State of Virginia. The Physical Therapist Assistant provides instruction to OT/PT support staff, PT students, personnel of other disciplines within VCUHS, and patient and/or family members. The PTA may rotate through our various clinical service areas. Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:Licensed (or licensure eligible) by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Physical Therapist AssistantLicensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment:Current license by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Physical Therapist AssistantCurrent CPR Certification if required by clinic or practice areaExperience REQUIRED:Minimum of 1 year of work experience as a Physical Therapist AssistantExperience PREFERRED: N/AEducation/training REQUIRED:Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant Program (Associates Degree)Education/training PREFERRED: N/AIndependent action(s) required:Patient implementation of plan of care, discharge planning.Ordering equipment.Representing department at rounds and discharge conferences.Scheduling and charging patients.Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable):Employee may have supervisory responsibilities of Rehab Technicians, students, and volunteers.Employee is a member of a self-directed team and applies his knowledge and experience in daily clinic problem solving.The team will bring unresolved issues to departmental manager for assistance and guidance in their resolution.Additional position requirements:Employee is expected to share in weekend and holiday schedule expectations of the department or have a fluctuation of daily work hours from 8 AM to 7 PM based on patient population/clinic needs.Age Specific groups served: Pediatric Adolescence Adult GeriatricPhysical Requirements (includes use of assistance devices as appropriate):Physical: Lifting 50-100 lbs.Activities: Frequent bending, Walking (distance), Climbing (steps, ladder, other), Reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive)Mental/Sensory: Strong recall, Reasoning, Problem solving, Hearing, Speak clearly, Write legibly, Reading, Logical thinkingEmotional: Fast pace environment, Steady pace, Able to handle multiple priorities, Frequent and intense customer interactions, Noisy environment, Able to adapt to frequent, change Days
