We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support conceptual research and development activities within a marine/boat product environment. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on CAD experience and the ability to transform industrial design concepts and surface models into practical, prototype-ready mechanical designs.

This role focuses on advanced conceptual and R&D design , including mechanism development, materials selection, fit/function development, complex assemblies, and prototype support rather than routine production engineering.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop conceptual mechanical designs and convert industrial design concepts into detailed 3D CAD models.
• Create and modify complex models, assemblies, surfaces, sheet metal components, and weldments.
• Develop mechanical mechanisms and determine appropriate materials, interfaces, fit, and functionality.
• Design prototype-ready components and assemblies for subsequent production engineering.
• Support the complete prototype lifecycle from concept and design through prototype build and validation .
• Develop mechanisms such as aluminum weldment structures, boat-mounted movable systems, folding mechanisms, swim steps, and related marine applications.
• Manage and validate 3D-printed models, shell molds, and production molds.
• Collaborate with industrial designers, engineers, manufacturing teams, suppliers, and prototype vendors.
• Support external prototype suppliers and assist with identifying appropriate vendors for prototype development.
• Handle complex and large assemblies while maintaining design accuracy and manufacturability.
• Provide CAD data and documentation required for prototype fabrication and build activities.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• 5+ years of mechanical design engineering experience .
• Strong hands-on experience with Siemens NX .
• Experience with Teamcenter/PLM systems .
• Proficiency in SolidWorks .
• Strong experience with 3D modeling, surfacing, and complex/large assemblies.
• Experience with sheet metal and weldment design .
• Strong mechanical mechanism and fit/function development skills.
• Experience taking designs from concept through prototype build .
• Ability to work with cross-functional engineering and supplier teams.
• Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing methods, tolerances, and mechanical fit.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in marine, boat, RV, automotive, powersports, or industrial product design .
• Experience designing aluminum weldments .
• Experience developing complex mechanical mechanisms.
• Experience with 3D-printed prototypes and models .
• Knowledge of shell molds and production molds.
• Experience converting industrial design concepts into functional CAD designs.
• Experience working with prototype suppliers and external vendors.
• Experience with rapid prototyping and prototype sourcing.
• Familiarity with boat platforms, swim steps, marine mechanisms, or similar products.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a hands-on conceptual/R&D mechanical designer who can take an initial industrial design concept or surface model and turn it into a practical, functional CAD design that is ready for prototyping.

Candidates with experience limited to production engineering, drafting, 2D CAD, or released production drawings are not the target profile.

Work Environment

• Onsite position in Edgewater, Florida
• Requires strong collaboration with design, engineering, manufacturing, and external prototype teams.
• Ability to support prototype builds and work through the complete design-to-build lifecycle.
