Postdoctoral Associate – Tumor Immunology Division: Medicine | Work Arrangement: Onsite only | Location: Houston, TX | Salary Range: $62,232 - $74,088 | Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Summary Dr. Shin is seeking a PhD post‑doctoral fellow for a VA merit grant–funded project, “Role of ATRX, a chromatin remodeler, in immunotherapy response.” The study will interrogate the role of ATRX in immunotherapy response using murine and cell‑line models, including a genetically engineered lung cancer model. Cell‑line studies have shown accelerated tumor growth on immunotherapy when cancer cells lost ATRX expression, suggesting new epigenetic insights into resistance and potential therapeutic strategies. The postdoctoral associate will also have opportunities to work on CAR T‑cell therapy for lung cancer and other upcoming preclinical studies assessing combination immunotherapies that may lead into early clinical trials for patients with lung cancer, head & neck cancer, and melanoma. Job Duties Design, plan, and execute advanced translational cancer research experiments. Perform in vitro studies using human cancer cell lines (lung cancer, melanoma, head & neck cancer) to evaluate gene function, molecular mechanisms, and therapeutic agents. Conduct in vivo studies using syngeneic and genetically engineered mouse models to validate therapeutic targets and treatment strategies. Maintain and manage cancer cell cultures and oversee mouse colony management in collaboration with animal facility staff. Analyze and interpret experimental data using appropriate statistical and bioinformatic approaches. Develop and optimize new experimental protocols and research methodologies. Prepare manuscripts for peer‑reviewed journals and present findings at national and international scientific meetings. Contribute to grant writing and preparation of research reports. Assist in maintaining laboratory operations, regulatory compliance, and safety standards. Perform other job‑related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field. No experience required. Preferred Qualifications Strong background in laboratory research, particularly immunological experiments using flow cytometry, animal work, and cellular/molecular biology. Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment; highly organized.
