Plant Maintenance Technician

The jobholder is responsible for industrial plant maintenance for municipal water and sewer facilities in The City of Frederick. The technician installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs electrical and mechanical process equipment and building support systems associated with Water and Sewer facilities. The jobholder is an essential employee meaning they are responsible for providing services that are critical functions required to maintain order, peace, safety, and the well-being of residents and visitors to The City of Frederick in the event of a critical incident. As such, the jobholder will be required to carry a cell phone while on standby and respond to emergencies as needed throughout the Department of Public Works when directed to do so.

Plant Maintenance Technician I $24.11/hr

Essential duties and responsibilities:

• Performs routine preventative maintenance, including checking equipment condition and performance, checking and adjusting clearances and tolerances, performing adjustments, greasing and lubricating equipment, changing filters, belts, hoses, bearings and other wearing parts.
• Performs work at heights over 100' (feet) and descends into confined spaces over 30' (feet).
• Assists other Technicians with project or repair work as needed.
• Responds to oral and written instructions and/or reports of maintenance problems and maintains records and logs of work performed.
• Maintains records of preventive maintenance performed to include repairs made and costs for labor and parts in equipment database management software.
• Locates repair parts, obtains pricing, enters purchase requisitions, and orders parts as needed.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with City officials, co-workers, vendors and the general public.
• Answers the telephone and communicates information professionally to vendors, other departments, and the general public.
• Operates a vehicle on a regular basis observing legal and defensive driving practices.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Required education and/or experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Required certificates and/or licenses:

Vehicle Operator's license with satisfactory driving record that meets insurability standards of the City's insurance carrier is required. The employee must maintain the license for the duration of their employment.

DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate or the ability to obtain in (30) days of employment. The employee must maintain the certificate for the duration of their employment.

Maryland State Board of Electricians Apprentice License or the ability to obtain within thirty (30) days of employment. The employee must maintain the license for the duration of their employment.

Required skills:

Ability to successfully complete training that will include but not be limited to confined space training, CPR & First Aid, electrical safety, etc.

Basic ability to use hand tools and power tools to maintain equipment.

Basic ability to understand the hazards and safety precautions in the maintenance of equipment.

Basic ability to use computers in a "Windows" environment and learn various software programs.

Plant Maintenance Technician II $25.91

One (1) year of related experience and/or training in residential, commercial, or industrial facility maintenance, welding, automotive, mechanical, heavy equipment operator, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, roofing, masonry, boilers/pressure vessels, hydraulics, pneumatics, machining, pipe fitting, or any other general construction related trade. A combination of relevant education, experience, and/or training may be substituted to meet this requirement.

Required certificates and/or licenses:

• Assists other Technicians with project or repair work as needed.
• Responds to oral and written instructions and/or reports of maintenance problems and maintains records and logs of work performed.
• Maintains records of preventive maintenance performed to include repairs made and costs for labor and parts in written form and in Hansen Database.

• Fabricates, installs, maintains, repairs, and upgrades mechanical equipment and systems.
• Operates and maintains boilers and pressure vessels.
• Under qualified supervision, installs, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, and upgrades HVAC systems, electrical equipment, and instrumentation and control systems.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
