Position Summary

We are seeking a compassionate, experienced, and highly organized Medical Assistant to join our growing medical practice. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment, provides exceptional patient care, and works collaboratively with physicians and other clinical staff. This position requires excellent clinical skills, strong communication, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering outstanding patient experiences.

Essential Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

• Room patients and obtain vital signs, height, weight, and medical history.
• Document patient information accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Prepare patients for examinations and assist providers during office procedures.
• Administer injections, immunizations, medications, and treatments as directed by the provider.
• Perform EKGs, spirometry, venipuncture, specimen collection, and point-of-care testing.
• Prepare and process laboratory specimens.
• Clean, sterilize, and maintain examination rooms and medical equipment.
• Maintain appropriate inventory of medical supplies and notify management of shortages.

Administrative Duties

• Schedule patient appointments and coordinate referrals.
• Answer telephone calls and respond to patient inquiries professionally.
• Process prescription refill requests and prior authorizations.
• Review incoming laboratory and imaging results for provider follow-up.
• Complete medical forms, disability paperwork, and other patient documentation as directed.
• Maintain accurate patient records while ensuring HIPAA compliance.

Patient Care

• Provide exceptional customer service with compassion and professionalism.
• Educate patients on medications, treatment plans, and follow-up instructions.
• Communicate effectively with patients, providers, pharmacies, specialists, and laboratories.
• Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
• Help create a welcoming, positive environment for patients and families.

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or GED.
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
• Minimum of 3 years of recent clinical Medical Assistant experience in a physician office.
• Current Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or equivalent) preferred.
• Current CPR/BLS certification.
• Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR/EHR).
• Strong phlebotomy and injection skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to multitask while maintaining attention to detail.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.

Preferred

• Experience in Primary Care, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Direct Primary Care.
• Experience with medication prior authorizations and referrals.
• Knowledge of insurance verification and basic medical billing.
• Experience with laboratory processing and specimen handling.
