Job Description

The College of Science at the University of Notre Dame is seeking a Budget & Finance Specialist to provide dedicated budget and financial support to the Dean's Office and dedicated department(s), as assigned. Reporting directly to the Director of Finance in the College of Science while maintaining close connection to the Department Administrator and Chair of assigned department(s), this individual would be responsible for managing the departmental budget, including unrestricted and restricted (endowed) resources, as well as contributing to various college-level projects and initiatives. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

The ideal candidate for this position will be able to successfully, efficiently, and professionally perform the following duties and responsibilities

• Implementing the annual budget of labor and non-labor expenditures and revenue for the assigned department(s). Working closely with the Department Admin, Chair, and the Director of Finance to update forecasts throughout the year, ensuring projections provided to the Budget Office, Provost's Office, and Board of Trustees are complete and accurate.
• Submitting and/or approving financial transactions in various University systems, including buyND, travelND, and the Financial Toolkit
• Overseeing and managing the restricted funds within the assigned department(s), including ensuring expenditures are appropriately charged, deficits are cleared promptly, and coordinating with Development, the Controller’s office, and the Dean’s Office on fund utilization, stewardship, and/or restriction release requests.
• Assisting the Director of Finance with various college-level projects, including financial oversight of Centers & Institutes within the College of Science, and other tasks and projects as needed

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree B.S. or B.A. in relevant field (e.g., Accounting, Finance). 

• 1+ years of experience with budgeting, accounting, and general financial management.

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA License preferred

• Higher education experience

• Strong Aptitude for Learning: Demonstrated ability to pick up new software tools, financial platforms, and processes quickly.
• Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy when managing numerical data, reconciliations, and documentation.
• Problem-Solving Mindset: A genuine desire to dig into processes, fix inefficiencies, and organize workflows.
• Proficiency with MS Office products, Google suite, and various budgeting and financial tools
• Understanding of the mission and values of a Catholic University founded by the Congregation of Holy Cross
