Distillate Lab Tech

The Distillate Laboratory Technician is responsible for conducting analytical and quality control tests on distillate products with the potential for some overlap with solventless rosin production and ensuring compliance with industry standards as well as regulatory requirements. This role involves preparing samples, operating laboratory equipment, documenting test results, and collaborating with production teams to maintain and create quality product. The technician will also assist in troubleshooting issues, maintaining laboratory cleanliness, following safety protocols and working with the cultivation team as needed. Strong attention to detail, technical proficiency, and adherence to quality standards are essential for success in this role. This is a hands‑on role and must be comfortable working in Laboratory, Agricultural, and Production environments as well as balancing administrative and operational responsibilities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Conduct Quality Testing – Perform routine laboratory tests on distillate samples to assess purity, potency, and compliance with regulatory and industry standards. Distillate Production – Consistently produce high‑quality distillate products for commercial sale and authorized distribution channels, including the development of multiple product types and the innovation of new offerings. Ensure Compliance and Safety – Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety guidelines, and regulatory requirements to maintain a safe and compliant laboratory environment. Assist in Troubleshooting and Process Optimization – Identify potential quality issues, support root cause analysis, and collaborate with production teams to enhance product consistency. Document and Report Findings – Record test results, maintain detailed lab logs, and communicate findings to production and quality teams for process improvements. Operate and Maintain Laboratory Equipment – Use and calibrate lab instruments such as gas chromatographs, spectrometers, and other analytical tools to ensure accurate results. Maintain Laboratory Cleanliness and Organization – Keep workspaces, equipment, and testing areas clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies. Other duties as assigned – This position will also be required to perform day‑to‑day cultivation activities when able such as trimming, potting, watering, and more. Education and/or Experience Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Engineering, or other related field or… 1‑3 years of experience in manufacturing or laboratory environments in the food or pharmaceutical industries. Experience with closed loop CO2 and ethanol extraction and distillation preferred. Key Skills Strong organizational and multitasking skills. Familiarity with electrical control systems for various equipment, and packaging with a focus on ensuring product safety and quality. Excellent verbal and written communication abilities. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Suite. Exceptional interpersonal with the ability to build trust and rapport across all levels. High level of confidentiality, integrity, and professionalism. Split between a standard laboratory environment and time spent in agricultural and production settings such as greenhouses, grow rooms, processing facilities, or packaging areas. While on the ground, the role involves interacting with employees in areas with varying temperatures, humidity, lighting, and ventilation, as well as exposure to strong odors, plant material, and agricultural equipment noise. Potential exposure to allergens, including pollen and plant material. Physical Requirements Prolonged periods of sitting and standing over long periods of time. Regular walking, standing, and occasional bending or kneeling while in operational areas. Ability to lift or carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds occasionally.
