Description: The Registered Nurse (RN) is a licensed professional who coordinates patient care delivery by the health care team. Using the nursing process, the RN assesses the patient, identifies nursing diagnoses, develops and implements an individualized plan of care, and evaluates the patient's response. The RN promotes safe passage for patients by using knowledge of patient needs and the healthcare environment to assist patients in transitioning through the healthcare encounter without preventable complications or delays. The RN delegates interventions based on the Nursing Practice Act, each patient's condition, and the competencies of the employee. This role supports RNs in various hospital inpatient and outpatient departments with 24/7 staffing, including those with on-call staffing on off shifts. The RN is responsible for conducting accurate clinical assessments according to practice standards. The RN identifies and prioritizes patient and family needs while developing, implementing, and evaluating the nursing plan of care. The RN modifies plans to meet clinical outcomes effectively. The RN systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, supporting evidence-based practice changes. The RN creates a compassionate, supportive, safe, and therapeutic environment for patients and families. Therapeutic relationships are developed and maintained with patients and families, promoting comfort and healing. The RN recognizes and incorporates unique differences, such as culture and spiritual beliefs, into an individualized plan of care. The RN preserves and protects patient confidentiality, autonomy, dignity, and rights, representing their concerns in care planning. Patient and family learning is facilitated to help them participate and make informed decisions regarding their health care. The RN collaborates with colleagues to develop and implement an integrated plan of care. The RN utilizes strategies and resources for effective problem-solving while considering safety, effectiveness, and efficiency. The RN commits to ongoing professional growth and contributes to the professional development of peers. The RN demonstrates knowledge of nursing standards, laws, and medical terminology. The RN must communicate clearly, possess critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and observe changes in patients' medical conditions effectively. General computer skills are required for documentation and communication purposes.
