Grants Accounting Manager - Business and Finance

This role will provide oversight of the University’s grant accounting efforts to ensure compliance with grant regulations and reporting. Position reports to the Associate Controller of Financial Reporting.

Salary & Benefits: $65,000 - $85,000, commensurate with experience

Primary Duties

• Familiarity and technical understanding of OMB (Office of Management and Budget) Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200) and revenue recognition guidelines set forth by GASB (Governmental Accounting Standards Board).
• Begin to develop as the lead subject matter expert in expenditure eligibility determination for federal, state and private grants.
• Oversight of grant or contract requirements by ensuring compliance with contract conditions and timely and accurate submission of all required financial reporting.
• Work with the Office of Sponsor Programs to review and approve budgets and related financial information prior to submission of funding application.
• Manage post-award accounting for several directly assigned grants and contracts, including sub-recipient monitoring in accordance with Single Audit requirements and University policies.
• Maintain an effective relationship with Principal Investigators (PIs), which may involve compliance training and financial support through preparation of project financial statements, budget review or responding to compliance questions.
• Lead for preparation of Facilities and Administrative (F&A) Rate proposal and assist in rate negotiation.
• Liaison to Financial Aid for preparation of Title IV draws and reconciliations.
• Lead for annual Single Audit report preparation, including preparation and reconciliation of the Statement of Expenditures of Federal Awards.
• Lead for semesterly Time & Effort Certification process.
• Oversee bi-annual physical inventory of grant funded equipment
• This position may provide supervision to 1-2 employees and indirectly oversee the grant work of 1-2 additional team members as this role develops.
• Perform other duties as required/assigned by leadership

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting and a minimum of 5 years related work experience pertaining to oversight of a wide variety of sponsored awards and contracts, budgets, and preparation of financial reports and/or billings related to Higher Education, Government, or Not-for-Profit organizations.
• Certified Financial Research Administrator or will obtain certification within two years of hire date.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to positively resolve conflict.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and oral to ensure effective interactions with individuals at all levels and backgrounds.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize and meet deadlines, work independently, take initiative, and maintain confidentiality.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office software suite (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Master’s degree in accounting and a minimum of 10 years related work experience pertaining to oversight of a wide variety of sponsored awards and contracts, budgets, and preparation of financial reports and/or billings related to Higher Education, Government, or Not-for-Profit organizations.
• Working knowledge of Workday Grants Management
• CPA certification

Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Some travel may be required.
