About the Role

We are seeking a Workers’ Compensation Manager to oversee a high-volume, multi-site workers’ compensation program for a growing organization with operations across multiple states. This is a hands-on role with a strong focus on California workers’ compensation and responsibility for managing claims, third-party administrator (TPA) relationships, compliance, and return-to-work programs.

The Manager will serve as the primary internal resource for workers’ compensation matters and partner closely with HR, Risk Management, Safety, Operations, Legal, Payroll, and field leadership to manage claims effectively, identify trends and potential exposure, and improve overall claims outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the day-to-day administration of a high-volume, multi-state workers’ compensation program, with a primary focus on California
• Review workplace injury reports and ensure claims are handled appropriately and in accordance with applicable regulations
• Partner with TPAs, claims adjusters, medical providers, and other claim partners throughout the claims process
• Monitor claims for appropriate investigation, medical management, documentation, benefits administration, and resolution
• Communicate with injured employees regarding claim status, benefits, documentation, medical updates, and return-to-work expectations
• Partner with field leadership to obtain medical documentation, understand work restrictions, and coordinate modified-duty assignments
• Gather incident details, supporting documentation, and other information needed to investigate claims
• Monitor claims for potential exposure, compliance concerns, delays, or other issues requiring escalation
• Oversee return-to-work and modified-duty programs to help reduce unnecessary lost-time days
• Maintain accurate and confidential claim records and ensure timely documentation in claims management systems
• Monitor TPA performance and address claim handling concerns or service issues
• Provide guidance and training to managers and employees regarding injury reporting, workers’ compensation procedures, documentation, and return-to-work practices
• Prepare claims reports and trend analysis for leadership and make recommendations based on claim activity and exposure
• Serve as a subject-matter expert on California workers’ compensation and provide guidance on applicable requirements across multiple states
  

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressively responsible workers’ compensation experience
• Strong California workers’ compensation experience required
• Experience managing a high-volume, multi-site or multi-state claims environment
• Experience working with TPAs, claims adjusters, medical management providers, and/or workers’ compensation defense counsel
• Strong knowledge of workers’ compensation claims, medical management, disability benefits, return-to-work practices, and claim resolution
• Ability to identify potential claim exposure, compliance concerns, and matters requiring escalation
• Strong communication, organization, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and time-sensitive claims with minimal supervision
• Experience with claims management systems and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook
• Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Business, Human Resources, Insurance, or a related field preferred
